Re: Thoughts on the Router Spindle for Felder shapers?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI¡¯m no expert, but a router table is a router table, and a shaper is a shaper. There are table saws and chop saws, same analogy.? You don¡¯t wear your workbooks to Church.? That¡¯s what I think... Bill Belanger

Thoughts on the Router Spindle for Felder shapers?
I am moving into a new shop soon. My old router table stayed at my previous house so I either need to build a new one, or find a suitable replacement.? I have a KF700 with a great shaper already in it. So I am considering skipping a dedicated router table. I can use my palm or plunge router when i need to take the tool to the work. And I can use the shaper when I need to take the work to the tool. And it would be pretty great to have a flat cast iron table and a slider attached to my "router table". In my research, the biggest issue with running router bits in a shaper is that the shaper will run too slow for the high speed that many smaller bits demand. However it looks like Felder sells a special spindle that has a pulley?sized appropriately to get 15,000rpm. That sounds pretty fast to me.? It seems like most palm routers run between 16k-22k, and big plunge routers run as low as 9k and up to 22k. Seeing that it seems like it would be reasonable to run even small bits in a shaper running at 15k RPM. Does anyone have any wisdom to impart here? Is 15k fast enough? Are there other things to consider that i'm overlooking?? |

I keep a squirt bottle of mineral spirits handy for gummy runs - it does dissolves the waxes and lubricants usually applied to the bed? but it's way slick and also keeps the resins? on the wood surface slick. Best part is that in seconds it is evaporated and dry.? Bad part is it is probably not the correct answer for the safety quiz for fire hazards. Squirt the leading surface of he board and let it disperse as it slides. Never used it on the cutting head side, suspect it would sling off before it was useful. Not sure what the best way to keep that drive drum clean as it is akward to get to, and tips would be welcom. I do alot of work with pine, so I'll have to add cleaning to the end of each run as part of the PM. Thanks for all you input Claudio |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI also clean the outfeed roller (which is textured steel in my case). It can get smooth with resin deposits.Imran Malik On Jun 8, 2022, at 10:30 AM, Mark Foster <mfsta2lt@...> wrote:

I have the same machine, I find blade life extremely good with the spiral cutter head, for me,? the wood stalling is always an indication that the planer beds needs waxing, once I reapplied wax the problem goes away for a while.

I wax the bed fairly regularly, at least once a week and for sure before a large run of boards.

I¡¯m sure your blades are fine, you need to wax the planer bed or use Felder¡¯s Super Glide spray.?

A3 41 Blade life
#spiralcutterhead
I recently purchased an A3 41 with the spiral cutterblock, it was delivered on March 29th. I have been using it mostly to joint and plane pine boards? ( 1x12 apx 300-400 bf ) with some maple and walnut (? < 50 bf ). I am finding that boards are now stalling in the planer, meaning they will not feed through without some assistance. On my previous planer this symptom was an indicator of wear on the blades causing more effort for the feed rollers to push the material through.?
The finish on the boards is still pretty good, but is it possible that the blades already need to be rotated? What is the typical life of the cutters? Or is there another possibility for the feed problems? Any information would be helpful. Thank You Claudio |
Re: Bandsaw Ceramic Guide Resurfacing or Replacement
Got good clear answers from spaceageceramics.com. Yes, their inserts made for the Laguna Italian LT16 also fit the Felder guides. And also this regarding installing them: "Heat the fixture to 450 or so then clean the existing glue out. Use a good quality two part epoxy for the reseating. Put a little weight on the ceramic guides to assure they bottom out in the fixture while the glue set up."
I've ordered a set, we'll see?how it goes.? Thank you all for your?comments. |
