Re: Felder K 700 S considering

The base price for the K940S on Felder¡¯s site is $16,490.? Figure about $3500 for the dado cutters and rotary phase converter.? This leaves about $7,010 for the cost of added options.

?

We know that he has these added options:

?

- Electrical tilt of saw blade

- LED-display for angle and height

- Easy-lock ¨C tool free quick change system on main saw blade

- Cutting width 49¡± (expanded table on rip side)

- Automatic rip fence for 49-1/2¡±, control panel positioned under sliding table

- On and off switch on sliding table (about $1100 option)

- DRO digital cross cut flip-stop (about $1200 option and requires the Format4 crosscut fence)

?

?

?

He may have these two options as well (you should ask him):

- Scoring unit 1.1 kW (1.5HP)

- Electrical height adjustment of scoring blade with automatic rise/fall

- Scoring unit status light

?

?

I can definitely see all these options adding up to $7k.? He may have gotten a discount from his sales rep when he purchased the saw (Felder typically has a summer sale and a winter/christmas sale when they do allow sales rep discounts).? Ultimately, it¡¯s up to you.? One potential issue is that his pictures show a bunch of debris/gunk on the surfaces of the machine.? I don¡¯t know if this is free-flowing sawdust or some gunk/stain that got stuck onto the metal.? I don¡¯t know why people just can¡¯t clean up their tools when they take ¡°for sale¡± pics.? I would imagine you would want the best presentation when trying to sell your tool.

?

The fact that it¡¯s been up on the site for something like half a year could be a symptom as well.? If you were really interested, I would go visit the saw and see how well it works/performs.? If you go test it, I would ask him to install a set of dado cutters to make sure.? Some Felder saws may not have been manufactured as "prepped for dado".

The K940S averages 1950 lbs, which is more robust than the K700S at 1628 lbs.

The new CMT dado set (imperial version) is on sale in Canada too.

Metric is so much better and simple. Looking at the Imperial shim-spacing guide gives me a headache.

The CMT dado I had, worked well and left a flat bottom but I could see few lines left by the individual blades. However, I could not feel any ridges. I posted some pics here.

Looks like it is a great alternative to get the dado capability on the slider. Basically, it can cut dado between 6mm to 20mm. It covers the range of Felder two dado cutters. It is only $120, already sold out.

Of course, you need to have the 30 mm arbor and 2 pin holes bored.

Hi Jake,

If it is the one on Felder used site, it has a 9¡¯ slider.?If one cuts sheet goods, in order to have space for clamps, most here will recommend a 10¡¯ slider. This one?has been for sale for may be 6 months now, so there may be room for negotiation.

It is hard to put a value on these machines. Before buying each of my used Felder machines, I got a quote from Felder of the same model with same configuration. This allowed me to decide whether I want new or used. If the seller is providing correct price ($27K invested) then he is selling for 60% of the new. If the machine checks out, that is definitely a reasonable price assuming you value the installed options. Considering new one is likely much more.

If I was interested in this machine I would call Felder to find out if they will continue to support the inverter and the control panel for rip fence in future. I used to be more concerned with Felder installed inverters but I recently helped a member replace his and I personally am not as concerned with future support even though Felder could not get this machine going after trying 2 new inverters.

Re: CMT Orange 8" Locked Dado Pro Blade Set

I bought a 30mm CMT Dado set, set it up on a Bridgeport using a close fitting arbour and drilled both holes. The result even though we took as much cares as possible was terrible with the bottom of the dado being hills and valleys. I took it to my saw sharpener and he set it up again, ground down the blade & chipper diameter, resharpened the blades and chippers and it is now cuts with a perfectly flat bottom.?

Re: Felder K 700 S comsidering.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I would second Bob¡¯s advice about considering a used saw. I don¡¯t want to offend anyone but what I¡¯ve seen is that there are quite a few hobbyist woodworkers who buy after retirement and then 10 - 20 years down the road find they aren¡¯t spending as much time in the shop and sell lightly used, beloved and well-cared for equipment.

That said, I did not follow my own advice and bought new : )?

Re: 40 mm rebate spindle cutter flush mount - Australia

Yes, good point Greg.? Those little 40mm "three hole" knives are mass produced, economy grade knives made from poor quality steel and the grinding is hit or miss.? They are ok, but Whitehill uses industry standard HSS with runs in the thousands of linear feet.

Re: Interesting Feeder for Smaller Saws and Router Table

Hi Bram, I have a Hammer B3 with an HC 308 feeder which is similar to the C3.

The feeder you provided a link too has a couple of show stoppers in my opinion

1) it uses an electromagnet to clamp it to the table, that means you wouldn¡¯t be able to use it with the shaper, as it would have to mount on the sliding table.

2) the shaper often requires the feeder to be tilted on the side so it can push against the fence, I don¡¯t see how the other feeder could do that

3) feeders like the HC 32 can exert significant pressure on the workpiece to control the work with the shaper, even during synchronized (climb) cutting operations
