I wonder if the forum can be setup so that replies do not automatically include previous messages and that if you want to reply to a quote you have to manually use an ¡°insert quote¡± function.

If I was doing this for myself like you are I would use PL premium and make a sandwich. If you are glueing the cherry together a couple of lines of PL with a little space to hold each hemlock board.
