My tried and true method is to cut my edge banding about 1/2¡± thick and use drywall screws spaced about 6¡± to hold it in place. Cover the screw heads with wood filler. Never fails. Ron Magliocco

I would just use flat joint and glue and overlap edges to trim later , no advantage to all the extra step. I just use a couple micro pinner To position and than clamp edge to edge.
