Re: Which Comatic base is small enough to mount to KF700 flip-away bracket

Could you share your safety mod ?
?
Given the width of the standard Comatic stand is 5.5¡± vs the 5¡± usable width of the flip stand with gas strut I¡¯m faced with trimming either one - though I was thinking about an adapter like above.?

I was also contemplating modifying the gas strut support arm to offset it further to the left to get the clearance I need. The existing hole pattern works if you can just center the base on the bracket. Seems there is enough slop in the retaining pins and brackets (top and bottom) to allow for this. ?I wonder if anyone else has considered this approach.?

I have two of these power feeder mounts I will sell one for $ 1,100.00 us only plus shipping ups gr?
Mounting base is cast-iron machine 6 in.? with 7 1/2 inches in opening
Unit is 8 inches wide by 7 x 11¡± tall 3/8 inch or 10 mm roll plate. Screw is 1 inch or 25 mm.
Hand wheel is 8 inches in diameter moves up and down like nothing. Just crank your power feeder in or out got both holes in the back of it for standoffs or mounting it however you want this is not a toy serious machine tool stuff.
If you¡¯re interested, contact me off the fog. This is what I paid for them. In 1992.

Re: Which Comatic base is small enough to mount to KF700 flip-away bracket

Another way to do that is a simple interface plate with the hole pattern for the smart stand and the tilt bracket.?
?
?
The danger Imran describes is real: the whole top of my smart stand came off once into my arms when I had not tightened the top before flipping.? That thing is heavy and I nearly dropped the arm and feeder.? I modified the smart stand afterwards to prevent that from happening again.? So while I am happy with the smart stand I would not recommend it for use with the flip bracket.?

Hi Ron,

Smartstand has a bit of a history. I have it on my Dual 51 and built a custom bracket for it. Earlier we weren¡¯t sure if it is advisable to even mount a SS on Flip bracket. I did a whole study to determine weight difference of SS compared to traditional Felder stand. SS with either a DS300 or DS400 was 15# heavier than Felder stand / Vario4 combo that I have on my flip bracket of KF700.

Since then people have mounted them on the flip bracket. One member cut the sides of the round base of SS so that it does not stick past the bracket top.

The key danger is to possibly forget to or not tighten the horizontal tube enough and cause to bend or break the memo pin. I would always have the horizontal arm such that it moves away from the memo pin during flipping of the tilt bracket.

I assume you bracket has the gas assist, it would be dangerous to handle it unless you are built for it.

Re: Adding smart stand with DC70 to tilt bracket

HI Ron,
I have the DC40 feeder with the SG13 stand. Since i am using it on my combination machine, i have the longer over arm so i can use it on the shaper, saw and the jointer. I do have some flex in the whole system though, & would love a heavier duty stand. From what i have read here though, the heavier stand adds a considerable amount of weight and also has a larger base, making mods necessary in order to fit it to the Felder tilt-away bracket.

Bryce

Re: Adding smart stand with DC70 to tilt bracket

Hi Bryce,
?
I have a new KF700SP with the tilt-away bracket and gas strut. ?I ordered a Comatic DS700 (smart stand) and found out it¡¯s too wide to mount on the bracket. ?The hole pattern is fine - but the base flange is around 6.7in wide - too wide to line up the holes. ?The flip-away bracket looks to have a usable area of around 5.25¡±x6.5¡±. ?
?
Which stand are you using with your Comatic and what are its dimensions? ?
?
Kyle at shopgearinc.com says the standard base is 7¡± wide which would make it even wider than the heavy duty smart stand. ?Looking to confirm the actual overall width and length of other Comatic stands (outer dimensions not hole pattern).
?
Any help is appreciated.

Re: Feedback on the sliding saw selection

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

My Nova Viking was delivered by a full size semi on Monday. It had a lift that was as wide as the semi. Once the floor was rotated from vertical to horizontal, the top leaf was flipped over and it became twice as deep. I think the platform was something close to 8¡¯x6¡¯. The driver (young guy) had no clue of its weight rating, which was scary. I guess if he is given the pallet he is going to unload it, without thinking much.

I just searched and spotted more than one that looked like what I saw. This one is rated for 4400# and is 86¡±x63¡±.

If my $1000 drill can afford to come on this, why can¡¯t $10K and more machines. BTW, Grizzly charged me $199 for delivery and $34 for lift gate service.

Rohit,

I suspected that was a possibility but now that you gave me a "proof of existence" I was able to push on the Felder rep. After trying ti give me the usual runaround, he did the work and came back with a forklift delivery for just a couple hundred more. I would be livid if I didn't feel like a complete fool.

Do you expect they will drop yours curbside or actually place the crate in your shop?

Wow - what a PITA. ?They asked me to do the same thing about my issues with a face mill which really pissed me off, so instead of writing a letter, I posted a??condemning the product and sent Shars a link to the video. ?That video has gotten over 4,000 views, so just imagine the impact on their sales. ?I recommend you do the same - there is no excuse for such crappy service IMO.

Thanks for the heads up on the Recommended Tools List Aaron - document updated. ?

Thanks for sharing your experience with Shars. I have several items from them but do not recall having to return one. Writing a letter is a bit much in my opinion.

Steff-Maggi 2048 power feeder for sale (Denver area)

Edited

Both short and long arms and some extra wheels. Excellent condition, single phase 220v, hobby use only. Local pickup would be best. I've made wood crates for the pieces but it is heavy. Shipping. might cost almost as much as the feeder. Asking $500.

When I shipped my previous saw ABF picked it up with a flatbed & forklift combo. Pretty easy.

Stan - I would check a 12¡¯ trailer, might be easier to handle/back to your driveway.
A wooden deck will be easier to unload from vs steel.
