Re: Articulating Shop Light
For overhead dust collection boom arms or any boom arm where you want the most flexibility of positioning, that means an articulating boom arm. ?For articulating boom arms used for dust collection, the middle knuckle requires a lot attention to detail to have the best function as the hose must flex in both directions significantly and not kink or spring back etc. ?For an electrical cord only, not so challenging.
As for the mag mounted LED lights used for drill press, bandsaw etc, there was a recent discussion on Sawmillcreek. I have a SuperNova and really like it. ?I purchased it some time ago and it seems like there are now quite a few inexpensive alternatives. ? I do not have reason to believe that any of them are as good as the SuperNova, but perhaps good enough and less expensive. ?Seems like for drill press or bandsaw task lighting, it would be way easier to mount dedicated LED lights than have an articulating boom arm, but that is just my 0.02. |

Re: Felder K 700 S comsidering.
I was planning to buy a K700 with just a few options when I was alerted by Imran on this group to a used machine in Texas. I had to make a fast decision, which was hard on such a large purchase, but I ended up with a $30k loaded KF700S for $15k. I had to drive down from STL and transport it, but I have family in Texas, so that wasn't a problem. I love the dual DROs, which I wouldn't have chosen had I specified a machine in my budget.?
I attended the Alpine workshop last spring, which I highly recommend. I'm currently about 30% done using the machine to build a whole new set of kitchen cabinets. That's helping me justify the purchase with my wife. Bottom line, if you know what you want but have some flexibility, and are ready to move quickly, there are some good deals to be had. I'm extremely happy with my machine.? |

Re: Articulating Shop Light
Larry, if you are planning on doing a shop build of something similar to the medical light in Brians ?post, try going onto YouTube and searching for "overhead dust collection boom arm". these involve much the same structure and there are a bunch of ideas for a shop built boom arm.

Re: Power Feed F348 electrical install
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi Michael,Per your private msg, please see the installation pics. BTW, I picked up the power after the master switch. There are provisions in my KF700 electrical cabinet that allow the wiring to go to the opening in the chassis. Imran Malik On Feb 5, 2024, at 12:33?PM, Imran Malik <imranindiana@...> wrote:

What do you think? How do you guys connect your power feeders? |

Re: Maintenance on BF6-31 - how to clean and lubricate saw rise/fall
I managed to clean it eventually - compressed air helped a lot - in case it's useful to someone else, with the saw lowered remove the saw blade and clean as much as you can using tissues and a long reach brush - I used one of those made to reach inside bottles. Then fully raise the saw and clean from below. Lubricate and move up and down a couple of times to spread the lubricant. It's not quite butter but much better than it was!

Re: Shop Office Size
Thanks for the excellent points, Brian. I am probably in the 9' x 10', 10' x 10' range but it depends on where I end up putting it. I have a space inside of my existing building that would be ideal (only because of location and that is where the network comes into the building) but it is a bit size-limiting. Time to grab my measuring tape and then work up a drawing.

Re: Shop Office Size
Thanks John. I completely represent the comment "whatever size you choose you will fill it up." Regardless of the size house, garage, or shop my wife and I have ever owned, we have filled it up. We are not hoarders but our daughter keeps saying we are "hoarder-light". Out in my shop, I hang on to way more end cuts than I need but, over time, often find a use for them. Unless it is the cheapest of fasteners, I hang on to every left over fastener I get with a project or piece of equipment. I am not near as bad as my step father who would pull nails out of boards, straighten them, and throw them in an old coffee can. When he was walking his property, if he came across an old piece of baling wire he would pick it up and take it back to his shop and put it in a different coffee can.?

Re: Shop Office Size
Ok I can weigh in here. I just built a new shop, roughly the same size as yours, and I had to include an office in it. Originally i was thinking the same as you. I know my real passion is in the shop not in my office. So I wanted the office to be as small as possible to ensure i gave as much floor space as i could to the shop. And that is good logic. But this is what I'll say. The difference between an office that is 8x10 or an office that is 10x10 will have a huge impact on the functionality?of your office. That could be enough space to allow you to include a book shelf, or a more comfortable desk, or a nicer chair, or whatever. But those 2 feet will have almost no impact on the functionality?of the shop.? Now I wouldnt take that too far. Don't make your office 20x20. But a few extra feet in the office might entirely change how that space feels and functions, where as it will likely have minimal impact on the shop. So give yourself some good elbow room there and dont?try and squeeze ever inch out of it that you can. -Brian On Mon, Feb 5, 2024 at 11:10?AM Larry <larry@...> wrote: Hello, |

I spent 40 years in offices about 10¡¯ x 10¡¯. That provides room for a desk, file cabinet, layout table, bookshelves, and space for a visitor to sit. Used to keep a drafting table with parallel rule also.

Re: Shop Office Size
My office will be a little bigger at 18x18' but it will be separated from the rest of the building by a tight door so dust will stay out, which means I can use it as a finishing room (I don't spray...just hand applied finishes) which keeps a damp surface safe while I continue to make sawdust in the rest of the shop.

My shop is basically a cube: 10¡¯ x 11¡¯ w/10¡¯ ceiling. It also serves as the primary
entrance for my shop (left side of pic) the ¡®corridor¡¯ down the left side makes the tiny space feel a little roomier. It¡¯s very functional And comfortable, has served me well for 15 years so far¡ |
