As I mentioned before, the automaxx clamp pulls the stock a bit when clamping it. As long as you have the plywood block placed against the stock being clamped, the stock will not move at all.

The short one is 70mm long, the long one is 120mm. All have 5/16"-18 thread.

I can offer it ($25 for short one, $40 for long one, plus shipping), I am in Ontario, Canada. I can get the shipping quote from Canada Post or your choice of carrier like Fedex and UPS. I heard the shipping cost from Canada Post is cheaper than Fedex and UPS here.

24¡± Panel Crafter Model 609

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I finally came across a panel crafter model 609

It floats on air. No templates are included. It is missing 4 knobs with 1/4-20 threads. The two threaded holes in the base are for attaching a coping fence (not included). The knob in the middle centers the panel via a rack & pinion mechanism.

It is built like a tank. It is used and condition is at least very good. A bit of wood is missing from one handle. Please see pics and video. $750 plus shipping from 46979.

Re: Efficient Method to Wrap Plywood with Solid Wood

I first saw Michael Fortune use?Scott Grove's Ultimate Router base to rout the profile on the solid wood edging of his high end table top, then saw Matthew Cremona use it to make the round solid wood edging in the following youtube video.

I bought Scott Grove's book: Hardwood Edging and Inlay for Curved Tables, because I plan to do it in the future. Using the Ultimate Router base flush trim the solid edging is just one of the things you can do with it, it is long with some weight, very stable, no tipping.

I usually wind up cleaning up spots with a plane after the router. I use a jack plane instead of a block plane though, as it seems more steady for me. I will sometimes run a strip of blue paint an inch off the trim and let the tail of the plane ride on that. It angles the plane off the tabletop surface, resulting in an imperceptible bevel on the trim, but helping keep the plane iron off the surface. Swinging the tail of the plane out over the tape changes the blade angle too, which is sometimes a good thing.

I really don¡¯t like the trim proud of the surface!

If you can rout the slot very precisely, sanding it to flush is doable. If you find you end up more than 1 mm over the table top, it would be a lot of sanding and tricky to get a perfect result.

If you think you will do more table with skirt boards, router planing or lipping planer is the way to go.

I was excited to finally use the MFK to trim edging flush with the top but it can only do 5/8¡± (3/4¡± tops) wide edging. That means I have to clamp a wide board to the edge (for stabilizing a router) and use a flush trim bit.

I am thinking of a slot and tenon interface, done on the shaper, to apply the edging. I can offset the cutter by a few thousands to ensure edging will be proud of the top and then just sand it. Does this sound like a good plan?

I would like to profile before gluing the edging to avoid blow out (during profiling) and the slot/tenon arrangement sound attractive for that reason as well. Maybe just able to use painters tape to glue the edging.

I need to make a replacement table top for a friend. He wants ply because he is going to paint it. Finished size is 20¡±x53¡±. So plan to use 3/4¡± ply to which I will apply 1¡± wide solid wood edging. Edging will be profiled. Mitered corners for edging. I can round the sharp corners.?

Re: Efficient Method to Wrap Plywood with Solid Wood

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Don¡¯t hardly do it anymore but my main bread and butter when i was 25 yrs younger were tables of all sizes with customer selected veneers pressed on mdf with solid wood edging.?

I initially did it in the predictable ways , oversized then router flush trim, then oversized and virutex lipping planer then + 1/32¡± and stroke sander then finally as close to dead nuts and block plane as needed if at all.?

?If i did it today i would shoot for +1/64-1/32 and block plane. If i still had a stroke sander then that instead of the block

I use a Bosch Colt router with a similar offset base for lipping for years prior to getting the Virutex lipping planer. I still pull it out on occasion for a few things. I like to leave it a whisker high and then plane flush with my block plane.
