Dealing with a Felder KF-7 Compact saw. #shapersetup #shapertools

Hello.

I have recently come in possession of a -99 mod. Felder KF-7 Compact saw (Combo saw-shaper) and I'm trying to get it to work as a replacement for my older tablesaw. The machine came from an institution that closed down. It was put in storage and thus some of the accessories for it was missing when I bought it at an auction. I have contacted my local dealership for replacement parts but not surprising there is not much to be had. I have tried looking for listings locally (i live in Norway) and abroad, but have not had much luck in finding the parts or information I'm seeking.

Now that the origin story is out of the way, here is my first question I hope maybe some of the wizards in here might help me with:
The machine came mounted with what I have gathered, is a high speed spindle. There was a regular 45 degree bit mounted in it. I was hoping to use the shaper on the machine as intended but from what I have found I need to change the whole spindle to be able to use the larger shapertools. Is this the case or do I simply need to change the top part of the spindle?
As mentioned Felder has said that the spindles for this model is not available any more. Is there a marked for buying these things used? If so, where?

The saw is also missing the mounting kit for the crosscut fence and again according to Felder, the kits available today is not compatible with my saw. This is also something I'm looking for in the used marketplace.

I hope this novel does not get me banned from this place at once and that you might enlighten me in the sliding ways:)

Re: ProLock spindle locking mech

I wouldnt be surprised to see Felder to come up with their own pneumatic locking device soon?

This is how the pneumatic locking/unlocking is done on my SCM?

It never gets too cold over here, daytime temp never dips below 5 deg Celcius/40 deg Fahrenheit, and rarely goes beyond 30 deg C/85 deg F, annual average is 20 deg C/70 deg F

Re: ProLock spindle locking mech

Yes, Dave Davies and Michael Marisco, sorry about the "No items found," and here's bit more information. I spoke with Carl Knapp (Felder sales) back when that 2020 holiday VIP special was on and he came up with the part number then added it to my order. I believe the price was $265, minus the 10% VIP discount, plus shipping, so it would indeed be nice if they could come up with some more. I placed the order in mid-December and it took til March for the order to coalesce and ship in one box (ref. the outrageous shipping rates in another FOG thread!).

Thanks Albert. I wanted to know if that cap works with standard arbor or does it require a special feature?

That is such a sweet machine. Would love to hear your opinion of it once you get some hours in it.

You have so much equipment compared to space it is impressive. How cold does it get in winter since you may have to open the doors to use the machines? Sadly that is not an option for me ?

Saw this add on FB Marketplace for a3-31. I'm not associated with the seller. #forsale

Looks like it needs some work but a solid price.

These are photos of the 1.25” pro lock spindle cap for Felder spindles. ?You can almost see the numbers on the cap. ?Maybe this would be enough for the Prolock people figure it out.

Re: K700S Power-Drive wont tilt

Thanks for the reply, David. ?I did not have to go that far...I took a peek inside the machine and noticed 3 switches (blade door, and 2 blade height switches) were covered in dust, so i blew them off and gave them a few presses. ?Then I tried the tilt and it started working. ?Here's the weird part...those 3 switches should not effect on the tilt. ?i even tried tilting the blade while the blade door is open and it still tilts. ?A gremlin i suppose...who knows. ?All I know is it has worked all day today!?

I listed it on Craigslist in Bend, Oregon ?The link is below.

It is such a versatile and handy machine I thought I would continue to use it but that is not to be.? There has been much discussion of the Rong FU RF45 on the FOG over the years.? The RONG FU makes a great substitute for a drill press and there is a woodworking drilling table included that mounts in the Kurt vice so switching from metal work to wood drilling and machining is very quick.

I replaced the original single phase motor of this machine with a three phase motor and a VFD for variable speed.? I think there was discussion of how to do this on the FOG when I did it.? The power feed for the x-axis is very nice and the DRO for the X/Y axis and the z axis really make the machine a joy to use.
