I forgot to mention one other iPhone support system I use in the shop. ? This one attaches to anything steel or cast iron with a switchable magnetic base. ?
This is the Noga MA61003 Big Boy: ?

How I use it:

Re: Workshop video

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I do extensive video and still photo work in my shop. ?

I use an iPhone 11 Pro Max almost exclusively for still and video capture. I have also used a Canon M50 mirrorless (which I find too tiny to fumble the controls) and my Nikon D7500 and Z6 (which I find too complex and heavy). ?

I have to say that I have owned and used all the top-end gear, and I am REALLY impressed with the iPhone Pro. ?One of the things I like about the Apple solution is that every image and video is automatically uploaded to my iCloud storage so I can edit on my desktop or iPad. ?Zero hassle. ?The iPhone gives me plenty of exposure and focus control for shop work. ?Time lapse, slow motion, zoom on the video. ?And the vibration reduction works as good as my Nikon. ?I even employ the portrait mode when I need to control depth of field. ?And of course, it¡¯s always in my pocket, so I don¡¯t have to go searching for gear when I want to capture the moment.

Here are the support gear items I use in the shop:

For video, depending on the situation, I will either use the built-in mic or a Rode wireless remote microphone setup: ?(?.

I do not like floor mount tripods in the shop - too easy to trip on, knock over, and difficult to position. ?Instead I use the following:
For camera support/mounts, I use either a table-top Sirui mini tripod??
or?I will use a Manfroto double articulating arm configured as follows which will attach to basically anything:
  • Articulating arm: ??
  • Super Clamp: ?
  • Ball Head: ??
  • To attach the iPhone, to either of the mounts above, ?I use a Manfrotto iPhone clamp: ?
  • Quick release base on the iPhone mount for switching between mounts: ??
Voice-over video microphone: ??

This is the articulating arm & clamp setup with Canon M50 - the iPhone mounts the same way. ?I have since sold the Canon M50.

Here is a link to a handheld video I made for a friend about the Sirui tabletop tripod: ??

The Rode remote microphone setup looks like this - lower (black) unit goes in my shirt pocket, the upper (white/red) component plugs into the iPhone and hangs on the mount with velcro;

I used the iPhone for all the still photography in my new Survival Guide book on carbide insert tooling. ? Here is the kind of close-up work the iPhone 11 can do right out of the box without any editing:

Most of the short videos I do go straight onto Flickr or Instagram without any editing, directly from the iPhone. ? If I need to do a simple video editing, I use iMove on my iMac. ?Example here: ??
When a full length video needs to be assembled, I use Final Cut Pro - example here: ?
?

iPhone Time-lapse video example here: ?
iPhone Depth-of-Field control examples here: ??
Plenty of shop photos and videos here (all iPhone): ?
Lifestyle stuff is here (all iPhone): ???
Studio work (all Nikon) is here: ??

Totem Pole

For a couple of you that made comments about the totem pole in my shop I am sharing how that came about.
The Totem pole came in for a little body work and a paint job, but this is the story.
It is 50 years old, I was always with my dad when he was doing woodworking as I was fascinated. At five I was on the bandsaw doing things with him and move up to bigger tools as I got older
When I was 5 he took me to see this "guy" that made stuff with only a chain saw. I was so fascinated watching him that we stayed the entire time he cut the totem pole In which I think was only an hour or two. My dad bought it and home we came, dont know how much he paid for it but I remember my mom was pissed. My dad being my dad installed it in the front yard so mom would have to look at it every time she came home. Well 50 years later when I sold my parents home I retrieved it and here it is for a tune up and to be mounted in my front yard to piss off my girlfriend. Traditions.

I am using the West System to fix the cracks and the dry rot base ( thanks to you guys for turning me on to the West System) and found the old paint colors in the house when I sold it.
That is the story and I am sticking to it.
Glen

Yes, you can air drop the files without problem or just upload?them / sync with iCloud. I havent?tried it yet, but if you have a newer M1 silicon Mac, maybe it is even possible to use Luma Fusion on the mac, I still have to test it out.?

For tripod mount, I use this:??works for tablets and phones. I love mine.?

Since I got this setup, I dont?use my Sony A7iii anymore for shop?videos.?

I've been shooting videos for my Great Guitar Buildoff entry with just my Moto phone. I downloaded an app called Youcut for editing them right from the phone as well. Works well enough for Instagram. I'm mostly trimming and adjusting speed, removing the noisy shop audio.

You lucky man! Keep the FB540. I¡¯m in a similar position, with an FB540 and several older and larger bandsaws, mid-restoration. Don¡¯t underestimate the value of the FB540. It is worth a lot more than you¡¯ll get for it, in my opinion as it is an original ACM built machine.

Put a 1/4 blade on it, tuck it behind one of your larger saws, and enjoy the fact that you can walk up to it and cut curves whenever you feel like it!

Yep, I have a large bag as well. ?I use a three way valve rigged to the vacuum line and duct tape my Festool to the split in the line. ?Open the valve, evacuate the bag, then turn the Festool off and close the valve. ?Works great.

I was taught that you need to be able to pull 21 inches of mercury to have sufficient pressure in your bag. ?I had a Venturi that I built from Joe Woodworker¡¯s plans. ?It never would pull 21 inches, but I also am at nearly 6,000 feet in elevation. ?As a result, I bought a Veneer Systems pump and couldn¡¯t be happier. ?

As Jonathan just mentioned, a fast way to evacuate a large bag is beneficial. We have a 5x10' zipper bag from Vacupress, and use their pump. It takes a long time to suck the air out of that bag with a 3" tall object being veneered. We started using an extra Fein vac that was sitting around, but any noisy shop vac would do. It's easy with the zipper to stick the vac hose in the last little opening, suck it down quick and let the pump take over.
