Dave, experiences vary from woodworker to woodworker but I've found you are just trading one issue for another with ZCI. I? know they aren't necessary from my own experience using them. When needed I prefer the deflector I pictured earlier. Yours and others may differ from my experience. . . Felder makes the zero clearance blanks for most saws as I pictured earlier. They usually supply them when you order a saw setup for dado tooling they also stock them and sell them, you just have to know the PN. Others who feel they are necessary are also making them. The forum is for sharing experiences good and bad

Good idea machining to thickness to eliminate the need for set screws. I wonder why Felder used set screws in the first place - maybe they couldn't guarantee flatness/thickness consistency with the cast iron machining. I like the versatility of the OEM insert but I've had several cutting snafus with the saw that I think the ZCI is needed, so I'll take a little loss in time swapping out over narrow cutoffs jamming up in the most in opportune time.??

Hi John:
No, they seem to last pretty well. Some woods are just not worth the effort. As I become older and more experienced, I’m learning to say “no” when a client wants a particular timber that is totally unsuited to the particular project.

I have one of David Best’s ZCIs for the Kappa 400. It is extremely flexible, beautifully made, and works for me. Easy to replace the wooden “ZCI” portion, and easy to remove the middle component for dado work. Whatever David is currently charging is worth it. Assuming he is making them!

Re: Hammer C3-31 electrical problem
Annu,
First know that Felder Tech support is available to you even if your machine is out of warranty. with what you are describing i would first check the voltage at the saw with motor off and on. you may have a connection issue or possibly too much voltage drop. what HP are the motors and what is the gauge and length if your ext cord.
Did the brake function work when it was running?

It must be an age thing when you have to turn down the radio to
see better when reversing the car! Noise is a distraction. After
buying a floor fan I was put off with it trying to mimic a B29
taking off. With nothing much to do today I had a look at the
offending thing. No fancy controller needed, just a suitable
capacitor in line with the AC as a dropper. Here in the UK, we
running with 240Vac and 50hz cycle. A bit of suck it and see with
the caps. Settled on a Polypropylene 4.7uf cap with a 275Vac
rating. Reduced power consumption, but more importantly the noise.
Yes obviously air flow was reduced, but I can live with that. If
you are wanting to try similar, just be prepared to
increase/decrease the capacitance values. If the fan is slow to
start, increase the value. Keep an eye on current from original
untouched fan. Ideally the slowed down fan will use less power,
but measure to be sure, as it is a crude way to balance the fan
operation. I settled on a cap that ran things at less than half of
the original power. A comparison is in the attached pic. Summer in
the UK lasts about 1 week, so I got a few more days to run this
thing.
