Re: North State/Powermatic 16" Wide Belt Sander Mobility Kit
开云体育I have mine on a plywood platform with 4x4 feet so I can move it around with a pallet jack that stores under the J/P when not in use.?David Best DBestWorkshop@... https://www.flickr.com/photos/davidpbest/collections/ https://www.youtube.com/@David_Best

North State/Powermatic 16" Wide Belt Sander Mobility Kit
I have a North State 16" wide belt sander arriving next week and I want it to be mobile in my shop.? The sales guy I ordered from said that some guys on FOG had good recommendations on what to use to make it mobile.? I'm up for a good setup that gets it mobile but if I had a good option, I would ask that all of the wheels swivel.? Having all swivel means I don't have to think as far ahead when I need to move several machines.? Thanks.?? |
Re: mounting Aigner rails on cast iron machines
In my fs52es Aigner rail install we noted that the walls were not parallel or even plumb due to the need for a casting to come out of a cast cleanly. The taper was accounted for by some
m8 steel leveling washers from McMaster recommended by brian holcombe. We could only fit one with the hardware we had and I didn’t want the play on both sides of the wall so we used one on the inside. and the outside was reference. The slight sag was not an issue. Things work fine but one of my Aigner tables has some bow along the length I need to deal with or swap out with another used in a less critical function. I recommend the washers. |

Re: mounting Aigner rails on cast iron machines
开云体育Eddie canola oil is an ?and bad choice. It’s sticky stinks online has a low flashpoint or a smoke point.?Safflower on other hand has a smoke point of about 450f not sticky and no smell it is refined is pricey. It works beautifully but is an oily mess. I generally don’t take vise off to heavy and to much trouble . I pay a mantanance person to clean up . I use a guart oil can with a plunger to administer the oil. Re: mounting Aigner rails on cast iron machines
开云体育About lubricants for machining: I haven’t use safflower oil but have used Canola Oil, which is from a hybrid Rapeseed plant and according to a university study I read has the best properties for finish and reduced tool wear of any of the vegetable oils. The properties for machining were great but it dries and gets gummy and is hard to clean from the machines, tooling and parts. It also becomes rancid and has a bad odor. Does safflower dry and get gummy on the tools? ? I have started to use BOELUBE paste and just brush it on my work. It doesn’t take much. It is nontoxic, has no odor and is easy to clean both the parts and the tools. When I take the vise off the milling machine table the cleanup takes two minutes. When I used the vegetable oil, it was a chore to get everything clean. ? Eddie Bell |
Re: mounting Aigner rails on cast iron machines
开云体育Felder sells a couple F coupling kits that work just fine and they can allow for taper draft on the edge of the table and they offer at least half a dozen different extension tables that are also independently adjustable so you can set them so they are flush with a table or a hair under.Mac,, martin/campshure/co/llc Designing and building for 50 years On May 10, 2025, at 9:06?PM, joelgelman via groups.io <joelgelman@...> wrote:

Re: mounting Aigner rails on cast iron machines
I find it very unfortunate that with the Aigner, there is no adjustability. ?If that rail is just slightly too high, and an outfeed table is mounted, the wood will catch on the proud outfeed table. ?I remember once drilling larger diameter holes in a rail to give a little wiggle room for fine adjustment.
?
On a subsequent mount, I checked, and double checked and triple checked the locations to drill the holes... and I also got lucky and it worked out well. |
