Hi Burak:

?

Wow! This is amazing. Thank you so much for sharing your description and pictures.

?

Have you considered putting this into Maker of the Year put on by Australian Wood Review?

?

I very much appreciate the art/design/skill required to execute this piece. What are the dimensions of the coffee table? And is the piece for your personal use? Cheers from Australia.

Subject: [FOG] New ..

Hello everyone. I made a new coffee table. I made a work with the marquetry technique consisting of 1634 pieces of ebony and aphromosia wood on the table. I was inspired by an Ancient Greek Kylix for this. The original of the work is exhibited in the National Museum of Scotland and dates back to 457 BC. I like to do such works because I love archaeology and art history. I depicted a wild ram on its feet. It was hand carved from white oak. I patinated it with bronze colors to give it the appearance of a historical artifact. Its 4 horns carry the table's table. I hope you like it. Greetings from Türkiye to everyone.

Re: Veneering hollow core doors

I haven't done any hollow core doors, but have done other honeycomb core panels, and shop made torsion boxes. My inclination would be to press face down, with a 3/4" MDF caul on top of the door. You could likely press both faces at the same time this way, but I would err?on the side of caution and do one side at a time unless using a longer open time glue.?

Re: AD741 Height Adjustment Broken

I doubt there is anything you did that caused the problem. Most likely a defect in the material or like I said, to sharp of a radius in the corner. The shaft most likely was designed to go thru the tube as it supports the shaft. If it was all to one side, another bracket would have had to be designed and bolted to another portion of the machine (maybe the bottom of the table?) to support the shaft. It's a logical design, especially given the gear is small enough to go right thru the tube.

There are no tight tolerances to worry about upon installation. The assembly just goes in far enough to engage the two bevel gears. The up/down tolerance won't be effected as the resolver portion of the drive system that feeds back to the DRO is attached to the electric motor. As long as you always approach finished dimensions from lower to higher (thicker to thinner), all backlash will have no effect and you will be as accurate as it ever was.

Hi Graeme,?

Congrats on the new machine!! I have a 2024 TF-130 and I just love it.?
?
Hmm, looking at your photos, I'm skeptical that you have an interchangeable spindle, I think your machine may have what SCM calls a "fixed" spindle. While I'm sure you could extricate the spindle with some disassembly, I don't think you'll be swapping spindles on a regular basis.?
?
Here is a photo of the 1-1/4" "MK5 Interchangeable Spindle" on my 2024 TF-130:
?
?
Here's another shot, with the 1-1/4" spindle installed, and my 40mm spindle on the table. Note the large ring nut on both spindles:?
?
?
As suggested, you're probably best served by first calling SCM with your serial number to see if they can look up the machine configuration to see what your options might be.?
?
I'll put my ignorance on full display here and ask if it might be less trouble to have your 30mm tooling bored out to 1-1/4"??
?
Good luck on your new machine!?

If you don't want a 1.25" spindle, and don't think you will ever want a 1.25" spindle. I would just have the spindle you have turned down to 30mm by a machine shop.

Veneering hollow core doors

Anyone have any experience veneering hollow core doors? I’m running a vacuum press 20lbs at 5,000ft elevation. We have 8 doors to do, and have already run the hardwood edge banding and scribed to the openings. (Last year we did the original 50’s hollow cores with no issues) Did first new purchase door test with Masonite platen and collapsed the door. Probably just going to buy a solid core to use as platen but looking for any advise. Thanks!!

Re: AD741 Height Adjustment Broken

The shaft broke from stress risers in the sharp corner between the smaller section and the larger section. Pretty common thing to have happen... so you just got lucky! :-) It's nice that they designed it to be able to be installed or removed right thru the center hole, could have been a lot worse.

The spindle won't be cheap.? To get up and running, you might buy a couple of 1"-30MM bushings for the 1" spindle.? You don't need many and if you keep the cutter low on the spindle, you will be fine for most cuts.? You want precision bushings.?

Check Oella for the tube Mac spoke of for swapping spindles if not included with your machine.? They sometimes have them as well as bushings for a reasonable price.

Cornelius,

The method to reset your planer DRO should be in the manual.

I have shared this and so far no one has mentioned that it does not work, i.e., Felder uses same method across it machines. Not sure if the new machines are any different.

If you use inches, first power up the machine while pushing the reset button on control panel to switch to mm.

Then very slowly plane a board to 20.00 mm thickness exactly. Measure with digital calipers as you approach the target thickness. Ignore the machine display reading during this. You do not want to go thinner than 20.00 mm as you will start over again (there is a workaround but likely best to start over). Once at 20.00 mm thickness (without changing table height) press reset button the display will changes to 20 mm.

Hi Brian,

I have successfully removed the broken shaft. It was actually easier than expected.? Once the motor is removed, the entire shaft/spacer/bearing/gear section is simply pulled out in the direction of the motor. This means that bolt #34 does not need to be accessed or removed until the shaft and gear are?completely pulled. The gear is actually slightly smaller in diameter than the bearing.? In order to pull it through,? the only thing necessary is the removal of two bolts on the motor side of the large piston.? Those bolts hold the bearing in place laterally.?

It is still perplexing to me how the shaft can snap since there is no way for any tilt or twist, considering the fact that motor, shaft and piston are all tightly locked to the table bed and cannot tilt independently to cause the shaft to crack. And I doubt the motor is strong enough to crack a 12mm shaft in rotation.?

In any case, I shall now wait for replacement parts. The only remaining question is how to reset the digital readout to match the actual height of the table since the numbers no longer match true height at this point ...

Many thanks!
