I am looking to add a shaper to my shop. This is my first shaper and I am not sure what is crucial and what is nice to have? I am currently thinking to get the F900Z with the following configuration: * Motor 3x 230 V S60/40% 60 Hz 7.30 kW * Moulder spindle ? 30 mm
* aigner safety fence
* Crosscut fence 1100 mm(43") * Electronic spindle height setting * Spindle angle settings are carried out with a handwheel and a digital indicator.
What do you think about this configuration/shaper in general?
The price of this configuration is around $16k and there is additional $1k if I would like to add a digital LED/motor for the spindle angle. How frequent are you changing the angle of the shaper?
?
I also asked for another quote for the Profil 45Z (non X-motion) There is a delta of $4500 between the two units and I am getting: Power drive for the spindle angle Digital motorized fence (this feature looks important to me) Aigner Spindle moulder fence (This isn't something that is available from Felder for the F900Z). I am not sure if there is ability to retrofit, but the part cost ~$700 from the UK (not sure if there is a regional sales limit)
Any thoughts?
I'll be at Felder's showroom Thursday to pickup my slider and will examine both of them. Is there anything else I should take a look at?
There is a second, smaller belt on a lower pulley, behind the larger pulley. ?The black debris that is cast off onto the chassis wall appears to be in line with the smaller pulley and belt. ?I would look closer at that lower belt.
The long belt does appear to be a bit loose, but one must be careful with tensioning. ?Too little will result in slippage and belt damage. ?Too much can cause early bearing wear.
I'm new here and very much happy to read the useful discussions.?
Last year I purchased the AD741 and generally speaking I'm very happy with the performance and accuracy.?
Thus, since day 1 there was a loud noise when I turn it on, I asked the technician at the time, and he told me it might be the belt not tighten enough and said I can leave with it.
Recently it got worst and for the first time I opened the machine, I saw a lot of black powder probably from the belt.?
Is there anyone knows what Is wrong and what I should do about it?
Adding some videos,?
Thanks! AD741

Re: AD741 5.017 planer roller not engaging at high speed setting
Looks to me like the belt is too long, too loose and you are at the limits of adjusting the motor further away. I would remove the belt, or read what size it is and get the next smallest one and replace it. The squeaking is from the belt slipping on the drive pulley, also contributes to all the belt dust in the compartment. You can check the alignment, but with that small of pulleys and as much distance is between them, I doubt that is the problem.

Re: AD741 5.017 planer roller not engaging at high speed setting
I saw the Biesse Winstore installed in a big commercial millwork shop. It was truly impressive. With all the bar coding of parts and panels it looked like an operator was barely needed in there.
I have a method of moving full sheets from my panel cart to the saw which I never lift the sheet. I slide it off onto one corner, stand it vertically and then tilt it down right onto the Panhans table. I can do it with 3/4" MDF with little trouble. I will try to take a video demonstrating later today.

I have the same vintage machine¡ here is a page from the manual. You can adjust the height and such of the planer bed by loosening the #27 bolts and rotating the lead screw nuts, #25 to raise or lower each corner of the bed. There is also the chain drive and I think you can adjust the bracket #15 to take up any excess slack in the chain system, it will push tighter into the chain.

Hi all, I'm new to the group here and also new to owning Felder equipment as I recently bought a 2001 made?4Kw 3p?AD741 (green paint) along with a 15hp rotary phase converter. The machine has a hand crank to adjust the thickness, with a mechanical digital readout inside the hand crank. The digital readout seems to be out of calibration.
I wired in the rotary phase converter and that's working splendidly. The AD741 starts and spins. Now it's time for me to start setting up the machine tables in my shop. It sat unused for about 15 years before I bought it. The first problem I've noticed so far is that the thickness planer table is about 1/8" out of whack from side to side. Adjusting the thicknesser table height causes a grinding skipping noise. I'm thinking that the chain synchronizing/driving the four post lift mechanism maybe skipping on one or two of the posts and that might've caused the misalignment.
I called Felder and they sent me the owners manual and an exploded parts diagram but no information on maintaining, adjusting, repairing, or calibrating the thicknesser table. They did send me some information on adjusting the surface planer/jointer tables.
Could you folks kindly recommend where I start to adjust and set up this machine? I think repairing whatever's going on with the thickness height adjustment is a good place to start so I'd love any information you have on taking that apart and repairing it. Then please recommend where I look to set up this machine bottom to top or top to bottom or however I should be approaching it.

Chris,
The reusable bags are really only intended for tools that make chips such as the Kapex, router, etc. These bags clog really quickly and you lose tons of suction if you use them for sanding. For fine sanding dust the regular bags are the way to go.
A1 Mate makes reusable bags for a fraction of the cost. I have not used them so I can't speak to their quality.
