Re: Looking for a deep shaper cutter

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Here¡¯s another option. ?It has the side cutters that help to produce a clean cut.

Max depth of cut is about 2.5 inches. ?I sometimes use it for cutting tenons.

Good Luck,

Alex

For Sale: A 951 L #forsale

Hi Group,?

?I have for sale a "like new" A 951 L which I received in December 2023. The intent behind the machine purchase was to follow the conventional wisdom of "buy separate machines". I went so far as to mark out the Shop floor with masking tape to represent the machines and worked around the proposed arrangement most of the Summer and didn't see any issues. Alas, now that I have the machine in my Shop and have worked with it for a few weeks, I'm coming to the grudging conclusion that, for my current (and foreseeable) shop configuration, I'll have to stick with a combo jointer/planer machine.?

?Therefore, it is with great reluctance that I'll be parting with my A 951 L. Here are the machine details:?
?A 951 L (2023 build)
?-- 7.5kW (10hp) upgraded motor
?-- Silent Power spiral cutterblock
?-- Euro-Comfort guard
?-- Mounting point for power feeder
?-- Aigner combination fence with flip-down sub-fence

?The machine works flawlessly, and I'm really bummed to see it go.?

?I audited the tables and found the castings to be nearly perfect. I know there's a lot of talk about "spring joints" on Felder jointers, I found that Felder aligned the tables perfectly (well, better than 0.05mm as far as I can measure) for co-planarity, and jointed boards are dead-straight (no spring joint).?

?Here's the machine:?

I am including the mounting bracket for a power feeder, but the power feeder shown in the phot is not included in the sale.?

Here's the Aigner fence:?

... and again with the sub-fence flipped down:?

I've been waxing the tables with every use, and using a squirt or two of Supergleit during use.?

I do still have the pallet the machine shipped on, as well as the Felder shipping clips.?

I live in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area of Minnesota, and would prefer to sell locally, though if the right offer comes in I'm willing to consider helping to arrange for freight.?

The machine is under power and available for inspection.?

The original invoice cost for the machine was $15.5k (plus freight) and was a ~ 6 month lead time, I'd be looking for something in the $13k range, available immediately.?

Interested parties can reach out to me via e-mail, thanks for your interest.?

Re: Harvey Bandsaw Alpha HW615P

Harvey's packaging and shipping are very good; my saw arrived with out damage or drama.
I've not used it extensively, but so far I am very pleased with it.
I do agree the fence is not the best, but works.? To change it from left of the blase to right you have to take the blade off.
I have not found an easy way to adjust the lower blade guide when changing the blade.

Re: Harvey Bandsaw Alpha HW615P

Hi Bill,?

?The current Harvey bandsaws are similar to the older Laguna LT14SUV, not the newer "BX" machines. I had a Laguna LT14SUV and it was a fine saw for a 14" machine, my friends over at Woodcraft claimed it was the best 14" bandsaw when it was available. It is my understanding that Harvey was producing the LT14SUV for Laguna, but Laguna dropped them when Harvey began selling the machine to other vendors, and started selling the "BX" machines (presumably from a different manufacturer).?

?The fence on the Harvey 15" machines is better than the 14" machine.?

Re: Harvey Bandsaw Alpha HW615P

I've had one in my hobby shop for nearly 2 years now.? It works well for me, but I came from a Grizzly G0555 w/ riser block that is woefully under-powered for resawing (I kept it though and use it for curve cutting).? I have yet to bog down the Harvey in any fashion.? It's obviously much bigger than my Grizzly, and getting it down into my basement shop took some effort (and a few guys that otherwise move pianos).? I had no issues with the quality or delivery of the saw.

I don't know if the Harvey is made in the same factory as the Laguna, but my understanding is that Harvey used to manufacture saws for Laguna, hence the similarities.? Dust collection is pretty good for a bandsaw, the table is large enough for my needs, as are the resaw and throat sizes.? The fence is a little finicky, as is the throat plate.? I have no issues with the table height.? The guides are adjustable without tools, and the only negative I will say about them is that because the thrust bearing sits parallel to the blade it gets that little groove in it.

I put a Hammer mobile kit on mine, as I already have 2 Hammer machines with mobile kits.? The saw is designed to hold one of the Laguna kits (not sure which), but those all seem to have the lifting mechanism in the back and that wasn't going to work for me.? Harvey sent me their mobile base for free because the saw shipment was running late, but I don't like that style base, especially for something as big as this bandsaw.? My shop is small, so the saw has to sit with the spine against the wall when not in use.? I made a little block to hold the bracket for the Hammer mobile kit and bolted that to the front of the bandsaw using the existing holes on the machine.? I can take pics later if you want.

The only other thing I've done to it is install a Laguna task light that's made to fit their brand of saws.? I had to drill into the top front of the machine (near the tracking view window), but that was easy and the light works great.

Harvey pricing seems to change constantly.? So if you are going to buy something from them check their pages every day and hit the buy button when the price is at its lowest.? Just now the price for the saw shows at $1999 plus $499 shipping; that's cheaper overall than what I paid 2 years ago.

Harvey Bandsaw Alpha HW615P

Any relevant experience with Harvey Alpha HW615P 3HP 220V bandsaws in a hobby workshop? Looking to upgrade MinMax S45. Some have commented similarities with Laguna 18BX, possibly even same factory. Obvious differences: guides (L-ceramic; H-ball bearing), table (L-larger), resaw capacity (minimal difference, either adequate for me), throat (L-18¡±, H 14¡±), table height (L-38¡±, H-34¡±),fence (dealer¡¯s choice). Harvey marketing is glitzy; periodically offer attractive pricing, recently $2,050 plus shipping. Major quality problems? Thanks, Bill Stuebgen

Reverification FAQ

Overview

Some members have been sent an email with the subject?Action Required: Confirm Your Groups.io Membership to Continue Receiving Group Emails. It asks the member to either respond to the email or log into their account in order to confirm their membership. Most such accounts are ones that haven't posted in a long time. It's important that all know that?this email is legit. It's not a phish.

Any user who got the email and does not complete the confirmation/reverification by January 28, 2024 will be suspended from Groups.io. A few follow-on emails will be sent to non-responding members between now and January 28, 2024.

If you are an owner or moderator of a group, you can see if any of your members need to be reverified. Go to the Members page of your group, and look for the?RI?badge. You may not have any members with that badge. If so,?you can safely ignore this.?

Why Reverification?

On Saturday January 13th, 2024, an anti-spam service called Spamhaus labeled one of our email servers as a spam sender. This caused any email service that uses Spamhaus to stop accepting email from our server. The reason they labeled one of our email servers as a spam sender is because some groups have email addresses subscribed that are not valid people, but are instead spam traps. A spam trap is an email address that is not used by a person, but is instead used to catch spammers. That is the reason that we began a reverification process and sent out reverification emails to many users on Sunday January 14th.

Spamhaus lifted their block on Monday, January 15th, 2024, but we need to continue the reverification process.

We recognize and apologize for the inconvenience this may cause, but we are required to do this in order to ensure that group email delivery will be able to continue unencumbered.

Who Was Sent The Reverification Email?

We applied the following criteria to select individuals for reverification:

  • Registration is from a domain with limited members, and
  • Their account is confirmed, and
  • Current membership in at least one Groups.io group since before January 1, 2021, and
  • At least one active subscription to a group, excluding No Email subscriptions.

Re: Buying a used machine without seeing in person

Mac, I think moving moving, loading and unloading machines is the most stressful operation ever invented. I only have 2500 lb forklift capacity and can only drive a little way into the shop. I have to be very inventive moving heavy stuff in and out.
Crafter machine not the heaviest at 5000lbs but a bear to lift with all the weight on the tenoning corner. Luckily the gravel pit next door has a big loader with forks that can lift 20000 lbs.

I sold my heavy truck and trailer a few years ago and told my wife no new machines over 2500 lbs
Blew that promise with the 4000lb Shizuoka! Set it in the shop with the loader but backbreaking to move with a pallet jack.

Re: Pm 2.5 monitor

Airthings View Plus is the preferred "inexpensive" monitor ($300) for indoor air quality (IAQ) professionals. If you bought this version, the one-week calibration is probably for radon.
