Re: Felder Branded Machine Securement "Buttons"

Thanks All, the ones noted by Craig look correct. I'll see if I can add some to an accessory order at that price.

Karl,

You should check your machine print or call Felder for actual PN for your machine.

Here is a machine using 2 diff types, #4 and #27:

Re: Felder dust collection vs cyclone

Hi Netanel,?

?I went through a similar exercise and wound up with a RL-160. One of the primary drivers for myself was headroom. My shop has 9' ceilings, and most of the cyclones would have been a tight fit using a standard drum. I appreciate there are shorter drums, but then you're stuck monitoring the drum and babysitting it more.?

?The RL-160 has a larger footprint than a comparable cyclone but has a much lower height, and the 2x 53 gallon bin capacity allows me to go for longer intervals between bag changes.?

?I have found the RL-160 keeps up just fine with my machines, including a KF-700, Profil 45, A 951 L, A3-41, FB-710, HS-950, etc....
?
?I do have a North State 16" wide belt sander and it has been my experience that the RL-160 keeps up with it just fine. That being said, I am mindful to shut the sander and extractor down every 15-20 minutes so the RL-160 can perform its automated filter cleaning cycle, which I suspect goes a long ways towards preventing the filters from getting packed with chips/dust.?

?I ordered my RL-160 as a 3-phase machine, with the anti-static filters and the automatic filter cleaning system. The automated filter cleaning replaces the manual pull handle with a pneumatic piston which draws the sweeps across the filter pleats.?

?It is my understanding that the cyclones are very effective at separating out "most" of the dust, but that the really fine dust produced by the wide belts would tend to get past, so you'd still want/need a method to periodically clean the filter. I liked the idea that the RL-160 skips the separating element and just regularly cleans the filters.?

?I hope this helps, good luck with your search/purchase.?

Re: Felder dust collection vs cyclone

Joe, for what it is worth I have an Oneida V3000 with the HEPA filter. It clogs up also. It got a lot worse when I bought a drum sander.

Re: Felder dust collection vs cyclone

Edited

Brandon - the euro certification is one of the reasons I consider the RL. I trust the euro regulation way more than the HEPA filter.
I recently got a Dylon meter and was shocked how much super fine dust is produced by the planer.

But having said that, it only emits the air it caught, not was wasn’t captured by the DC.

Joe - What RL does he have?

Re: Felder dust collection vs cyclone

A friend and fellow FOG member is considering a move from an RL to an Oneida 5hp VFD collector. He has trouble with fine dust clogging the filters with his wide belt sander.

Re: Felder dust collection vs cyclone

I had the exact same question several years ago. I finally went with a demo model RL160. It takes up three times the space of the Oneida, but for me the deciding factor was that it's certified by the European OSHA to be used in the same room as workers. The fine print on all the cycles recommends exhausting them outside. My shop is climate controlled and I'm not about to blow 2000 CFM of concerned air outside.?

I've been happy with the RL. Just don't let the bins fill up enough to clog the filters.

Re: Overarm Guard Modification

I also leave mine unbolted. There's enough friction when it goes home that I don't worry about it moving on its own. A ball-detent or spring loaded pin and brass bushing would give you the postive stop you seem to be looking for. Or, you could go exotic like a big electromagnet, but the holding current might run up your utility bill.?

Felder dust collection vs cyclone

I just sold my old dust collector (Oneida 5HP supercell) for a preparation for my new slider (the supercell only support 1 - 5” port) and about to order a new unit (Oneida dust gorilla pro 5HP with VFD).
now I started to started to think maybe I should also consider the euro DC.
The gorilla pro costs ~$4500 so it is in the range of the RL140.
for people with the Felder DC, what do you think about it?
have you ever compared it to a cycle?

my big machinery:
Felder K700s with overhead dust?
Hammer N4400
Hammer HS950 - edge sander?
Hammer A3-31 (will be probably swapped with AD951 in near future)
Planning to add a shaper (F700z?)

I’m in the same camp as mark. Simple and easy enough to leave unbolted.?

Re: Overarm Guard Modification

I have not tried leaving it unconnected. It would work as dust collection, but I wondered how susceptible it would be to bumps and vibration.

I’ve also been looking at switchable magnets, like Magswitch. These are strong, but there is still the issue of switching them without walking around the saw. A regular magnet would work as a detent, releasing with just a tug on the arm. I probably have something laying around to experiment with.

Thanks for the ideas! ?

Steven,

I would purchse set today if they were available.
Were you able to get CAD file to have these Fabbed by FIXtiv?

Thanks Scott G
(I am still shocked that some of the Felder sliders T-slot is so sloppy)

I currently use a shop made, oak t track bar to mount the jig to the slider T slot but due to the non-uniform dimensions of the t slot throughout its length, I'm getting sick of the play and slop. I was hoping to utilise the support table to 'fix' the jig to using a t bolt and 90 degree aluminum extrusion bracket. I figured that as the P channel is a true reference point then anything mounted to it could be trusted as being true to the blade? Is this correct?

Thanks?

Thank you David.
With the help from your “Survival Guide” the K700S is setup and working great! ?Now just need to transition from cabinet saw techniques to slider techniques.?

Hi everyone - new to the FOG,
Was wondering if anyone had instructions for commissioning a Felder AD941 16" jointer/planer? Or, instructions on how to adjust the jointer and planer tables, if needed.
There was no such information included from Felder - no surprise, and I've been told it will take a month in my part of the country to have a tech come out and commission the unit.
Any information would be appreciated.
