Re: KF 700 spindle start up issue

I would start by checking you start and run capacitors.? If the circuit trips after you let go of the start switch the issue is likely your run cap.

Capacitors are typically the weak point in single phase motors. Obviously there could me a host of other issues but this is where I would start.?

Going through the configurator on the Altendorf web site was quite interesting. There are a lot of options! I don’t know if the result is more like a sports car or a truck.

Re: Building, upgrading and servicing machines

Hi Derek:

?

A couple of questions below, all with thanks for taking the time to post. There’s a lot in your post for the forum! Cheers.

?

  1. It is very nice to see Festo gear in your shop. I’m an early adopter too. Many colleagues in Brisbane have no idea that Festool used to be Festo. I only discovered that “Festo” still exists when I saw Festo branded compressed air fittings on my RL250.

?

  1. I had forgotten about your Incra “parallel fence” adaptation which is very cool and I can see pre-eminently useful. I have long wanted something similar – hence the following questions:

?

    1. How do you attach the guide to the slider? It appears you have it attached to the edge of your slider, and also presumably to the table slot? (Since my slider is different I’ll have to adapt your solution, but I’d be grateful for any details of what you’ve done.)
    2. You mentioned the guide and cross cut stop has been calibrated to be equal – which is essential of course for parallel rips. Do you have a quick method for doing this?
    3. You mentioned being able to move the parallel guide quickly and easily – music to my ears – but do you have to calibrate the guide every time you move it?

?

Thanks.

?

Warm regards,

Lucky

?
Thanks Lucky.?

I need to update the article on my website, and so will put together new photos and add dimensions. I will start a new thread here for this.

With regard to Festo, I have a couple, both sanders. One is a RS400 orbital sheet sander. This is 20 years old but essentially unchanged from the Festool RTS400 REQ.

The other is at least 25 years old , the Festo ROS, ET 2E. This is the forerunner of the Festool 150/3 ROS ...

Big, heavy but wonderful with Abranet on horizontal surfaces. These days I tend to use a Mirka Ceros more ... not that I use sanders much.

Regards from Perth

Derek

Re: Altendorf, The inventor of the slider

I bought my F45 a few months before the IWF show which no doubt were selling lower than I paid.? The base machine is $39k then you add in automation on rip, scoring features, digital fence (+$5k), dual air clamps, Duplex which is their EGL equivelent, Palin is the parallel guide in analog and digital, the length compensation mitre fence you are north of $50k. That was a lifetime purchase I made after consulting with experts here Kappa vs Martin vs Altendorf, I was going the Martin route but they never responded to my signed quote. Altendorf NA sales checked in with my on a regular basis even after hours, saw delivery day sales guy called, week later sales guy called, month later sales guy called. Not to up sell the question was "are you satisfied, any issues?".

All of my dealings with Altendorf have been first class and they are responsive to phone and email most importantly they take pride in what they do. I tried going the Stiles route but the cost was higher than going direct to NA Altendorf sales. Tony Cannon is the gent I worked with 704-200-8328 or t.cannon@.... The other item to mention is the Altendorf quoting system shows the base machine, the options you selected and the options you DID NOT select all in one place with descriptions/cost for each. Each manufacturer has their own feature set it's difficult to understand them all from websites and brochures in this case options are listed in detail in front of you.

I will be posting some videos of the F45 soon similar to MW and the Canadian dude K700s without the suit to youtube. Last word- even if the Altendorf, Kappa and Martin machines were at the same build level the service is not. Altendorf sales, service, accounting and shipping you can call any of those extensions and talk to a real live person.? Call me crazy for commending a basic business practice when spending $50k that the other companies can't do.

KF 700 spindle start up issue

Hi all, having a issue on start up and looking for some help
Machine is a 2008 KF700 single phase.
This machine I only used as spindle moulder, I've owned it for approximately 2 years and have had no issues.
When starting spindle, with no head, there is no issues.
When starting with steel 125mm rebate head, it starts to power up and before it gets to full speed it shuts down.?
The result is a blown fuse.
I replace the fuse and same issue on start up.
Seems like it's only blowing a fuse under a? load.
Any ideas?

Re: Cast iron table flatness issue #k700s

Thanks David, I understand better the sentence "Could lead to more problems", so I cross fingers that the technician can fix the cast iron table to something acceptable. From a phone discussion, the guy said the same "0.1mm" is their tolerance.

Wade,

?

Yeah, if you have a long enough hose you can do that.? The request is really for the adapter.? These 120mm ports are basically 5”.? I would like to connect a 6” hose to reduce the hose CFM restriction.? Oneida makes a 120mm to 6” sheet metal reducer, but it’s about 14” long (way too long!).

Re: Cast iron table flatness issue #k700s

Mark, thanks for your response. I did get it that no one was suggesting that simple deflection is the only possible cause of the dip near the trunnion. However, this idea did get most of the coverage with the possibility of a??localised dip being largely ignored. Even in my case, I wouldn’t swear that it’s not deflection caused by the weight of the trunnion.

The problem I have is it if my machine does have a localised dip, then I can safely jack the top up to remove the deflection component, but any further jacking, which attempts to remove the dip does impose additional load on the cast-iron top.

Re: Altendorf, The inventor of the slider

Jason, I wondered the same thing. I believe a Felder saw with the same safety feature is about US$45,000.

if it was a $5,000 upgrade to my K700S I would have bought it. Adding over $30k put it out of reach.

Watching the fellow demonstrate the safety feature by sliding his hand into the blade without even looking made me squirm. For my entire life I’ve been taught to use safety devices but to never rely on them.?
