Re: CF741SP Order Questions
Welcome and congratulations on your upcoming purchase Michael
Here is a cut and paste from Felder advertising blurb: Power-Drive
The fully electrical ¡°Power-Drive¡± planer table control offers the most precise adjustment and repeat accuracy. With a twist of the knob, you can quickly adjust the planing height, then fine-adjust using the button. An integrated LED-display displays the actual value.
Digi-Drive
Enter your required dimension, press start and the planer table will move accurately to the position. Required and actual values are shown on LED displays. Additional optional functions, such as incremental position and four programmable thicknesser table positions are available.
Having started out with the Power drive on my 1st thicknesser/planer from Felder (AD951), I found it finicky to make accurate settings for setting the thickness.? It's is possible to get to the setting you need though. When I upgraded to the Dual 51 I was prepared to pay the extra for a digi-drive. Initially, I thought I couldn't justify the additional cost for the digi-drive over the power drive, but having used both it would be frustrating to go back to the power drive You also said you were getting the dado setup so getting the digi drive for the saw I feel would also be to your advantage. Hope this helps and you get lots of enjoyment and use out of your new Felder combination. Cheers D |

Re: CF741SP Order Questions
Hello Michael,
We have a 2003 CF741 with the short slider. ?Since we don't cut sheets of plywood very often, the shorter unit works quite well for us. ? All adjustments are manual crank with Felder indicators. Doesn't have scoring. ?Having a Power Feeder and the long arm lets us saw, shape, and joint, quickly?and accurately. ?Yes, the short fence is fussy to setup, but once set, cuts come out perfect. ?Mac's clamps, and Brian's Fences are top?quality and work fantastic. ?Be selective on tooling, it's easy to get from Felder or Rangate as you need it. ?The Planer/Jointer is the 4 blade Felder system which?produces an acceptable finish. ?We use the router spindle quite often for small profiles. You may want to look at some of the Aigner fences and accessories as well. ?This unit is 3 phase,?5 horse, run with a?Kay rotary phase convertor. Plan on getting some adjustment tools for squaring and alignment as well. Keep in mind combos take more organization, because when one 'screws up a board' you have to re-set the unit to make a new piece. ? Hope this helps, Mike M.E. Blake General Contractors |
Re: Digital Rip Fence mod on K500
Bill,
Not sure where you are on this project but I have gotten a bit serious on this mod for my K975. If Felder offers DRO on rip fence for your machine, the parts to mount sensor may be in your exploded diagrams.?I checked mine and the sensor bracket is $9 for my fence, not in stock so will be couple of months to get it. I believe, it is designed for Siko DRO but the sensor mounting dimensions are compatible with Faima MT sensor. The biggest diff is that MT body is ~2mm wider, so the sensor may sit a bit high against the magnetic banding (in operation). Work in progress, just thought I share. Imran |
Re: CF741SP Order Questions
I bought the short cross cut fence with my K700S, probably because it looked so familiar to the way a cabinet saw works. I found the same issues with maintaining square, and the big fence works well, so the short fence may stay hung up on the wall. It is very hard to adjust. If it was easier to square it up I might use it.
Get a big square, like the one Brian Lamb sells, to square your fence. It is expensive, but the size really helps get the fence set quickly. I tried a smaller machinist square, but could not get the big fence set consistently square. I concur regarding the switches on the end of the slider. Those are very helpful. I have the overarm dust collection and blade cover. I don¡¯t know how that works with a combination machine, but I would not be without it on my saw. For the stand-alone saw, one has to order it with the ability to use a dado blade. That is not standard, and if you don¡¯t purchase that option you cannot add a dado later. I use the Forrest dado set. Maybe with a shaper you don¡¯t need a dado. Having never used a shaper I don¡¯t know. You will find yourself wanting some accessories, like Mac¡¯s clamps and Brian¡¯s parallel fences.? -- John Hinman Boise ID K700S and A941 |
Re: CF741SP Order Questions
Michael,
Welcome to the group.? Been there, done that, and without a tee shirt.? I had a 2004 model CF741SP configured similar (spiral cutterheads were not available then) to what you are ordering.? I sold it in 2008 after deciding to go to separates.? It had the power drive on the planer but not on the shaper and it is a very nice feature to get you to an accurate thickness setting quickly.? I think this feature would be a worthy addition to the spindle height as well.? I agree with your assessment to keep manual adjustments on the saw.?? If you plan on cutting a lot of sheet goods, I would look at adding the remote start on the end of the slider and scoring.? Without this, the start button location is not accessible when sheets are loaded on your sliding table.? That is a feature that I miss on my current slider. On the subject of power feeders, IMO, the long table CF741SP units are not well suited for large heavy power feeders.? I had mine configured with a long arm Steff 2048 feeder, tilt bracket, and the Big Lift (gas strut).? I added the long arm to be able to use the power feeder on the jointer.? To tilt it out of the way on this machine required positioning the feeder arm parallel with the sliding and positioned such that less than 6" of the feeder arm stuck out the back so that it would clear the saw base in the stowed position.? It was a significant physical chore to tilt away a 150lb feeder stuck out on a bar 3 feet out.? I am no Charles Atlas and had extreme difficulty doing this 18 years ago and do not believe I could tilt the feeder out of the way today.? Today, I would go with a 3 wheel feeder with the short arm and plan on using it with the shaper only. On the different size crosscut fences, keeping these square and calibrated for length stops is something you have to check and adjust every time it is moved.? Like others have indicated it is not repeatable so I would not recommend these. Hope this helps. Steve |
Re: CF741SP Order Questions
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýWelcome Michael!I have a 2007 CF741sp with power drive on the planer. ?Personally, I think that power drive on the shaper would be a great addition as one of the issues with shaper setup is accurate height ¡ª yes, you can fiddle with various measuring devices, but the power drive makes things more repeatable. ?Frankly, a separate shaper with a digital fence and digital height is something I lust after¡ Regarding different cross cut fences, the short cross cut fence from Felder is NOT repeatable in setting it to square. ?David Best has devised some hardware to fix the problem, so if you are really sold that you would like the short cross cut fence, then you need to check with David about the hardware solution. ?I bought a short cross cut fence, could not get it to square myself, nor could a Felder technician. ?So back it went. ?In the meantime, I¡¯ve found that it really isn¡¯t necessary and there¡¯s a lot of other stuff that is more useful, in my opinion. I have two cast iron extension table I use. ?One is on the outfeed side of the saw, the other on the outfeed of the planer. ?Otherwise, I don¡¯t really see a need for more. Buy the Felder dados. ?Buy a power feeder for the shaper and the tilt bracket. ?You also will need the gas strut to help with raising the power feeder from it¡¯s tilted position to the upright position. On scoring, are you going with manual or separate powered scoring? ?Personally, I don¡¯t see much use for the separate powered scoring unless you are doing a ton of veneered panel work. ?You also should realize that you must use a smaller diameter saw blade if you are using scoring. Other stuff you should get:? 1. ?A set of Mac¡¯s Airtight pneumatic clamps for the Xroll table. 2. ?A set of Brian¡¯s parallel guides ¡ª go for the digital version. 3. ?Digital stops on the cross cut fence. ?Repeatability is a hallmark of consistency and precision. 4. ?Brian¡¯s big square. ?You¡¯ll use it to set your fence on the outrigger table to square using David Best¡¯s method. My 2 cents off of the top of my head. ? Mike

Re: CF741SP Order Questions
Hi Michael!?
Congrats on the CF741SP, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I have a 2020 KF700SP w/ 3200mm slider, 1500 outrigger, similar specs to your machine.? In terms of Power Drive, I'd suggest Power Drive would be most helpful on the Shaper, if for no other reason than the manual adjustment can be a little fiddly to reach when everything is set up. I ordered "Manual" adjustment on my KF700, with the knowledge that I'd eventually be ordering a more fully featured, separate shaper as funding allowed. If you're thinking this will be?the machine, I'd suggest getting Power Drive on at least the Shaper. Power Drive on the thicknesser would be handy but not essential. I have manual raise/lower on my saw and it hasn't been a problem.? Did you order a power feeder and tilt bracket? If "Yes" that's great, otherwise I'd counsel that you seriously consider adding the tilt bracket with pneumatic assist, and get a Comatic DC40 from Shop Gear Inc:?? I like the Silent Power cutter on my Hammer A3-41 (same head as goes on the Felder jointers/planers), but if/when I bump to something like a AD941 I'll likely select a TERSA head, might be worth looking at.? I have the 7.5hp 3ph electric package and I love it, running on a Phase Perfect PT010.? You may want to reach out to David Best to see if he would be willing to sell you a PDF copy of his Felder Survival Guide. Not every detail matches current machines, but the fundamentals are there and I've found it very helpful in terms of dialing-in my machine.? Lastly, make sure you've sorted out delivery. For my KF700SP, it was too heavy for lift gate service, and we ended up arranging delivery via a flatbed truck with one of those all-terrain "piggy-back" forklifts like you see on lumber trucks. It worked great, but important to sort out ahead of time.? Lots of very knowledgeable and talented folks here, I'm sure you'll get lots of feedback/suggestions. Congrats and good luck! -- Tom Gensmer Heritage Home Renewals, LLC Minneapolis, MN |

Re: Bandsaw power
Tom, I ordered mine in October of last year. It did end up needing to be custom as I had added an E-Stop and they didn't have any. I wasn't in dire need of it at the time either. Hopefully it'll be here soon though! I also got the 7.5hp?motor, in my experience you can never have too much power on a bandsaw!? On Fri, Jul 8, 2022 at 5:22 AM <tom@...> wrote: Hi Jared! |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýDougI bought a 20 yr old Agazzani 600 last yr, and a friend recently bought a Rapid 600 that is basically the same machine. ?I paid a little over 2300 for mine which is a 5 ho single phase. ? I think if you can find one that has had hobby use of either of these brands it would work for you. ?Very heavy duty with large table and cast iron wheel¡¯s. I removed the table and motor to make it easier to tip on Its spine into my pickup to transport and unload easier. Both of those were relatively easy to takeoff and reinstall, and might make getting down the stair easier. ? If you find a 3 p one and don¡¯t have 3 p and don¡¯t have an expectation of getting more 3 p equipment, a single phase to 3,phase vfd might suffice for a few hundred dollars. Best regards? Mike?
