It allows you to change cutters without opening the saw and locking the shaft - hand tighten a nut and then a small set screw type mechanism and done

Michael,
It was not stock. ?I sent in measurements and they made the spindle caps.
Since they made them once they probably have the design. ?
My first ?spindle cap had a thin top cap and broke, the other three spindle caps are still fine as far as I know. ProLock sent a thicker replacement cap. ?The reason I mention this is it would be better to get the modified thicker design. ?When
I get to the office I will search for the emails with ProLock, I think there may have been a drawing that I could share.

Michal,
How was the class? ?I wish I was still woodworking just so I would have an excuse to go hang out with Ultimate Joe in Ouray, CO.
When I ordered the ProLock 1 1/4” spindle caps we had to order 4 to make a minimum custom order.
I ordered them directly from ProLock and picked them up at LIGNA that year.?

I did try to see if I could message Joe but could not figure out how to do that on the forum - ? Thanks ? Michael ? 704-783-7154 ? |

Re: K700S Power-Drive wont tilt
开云体育The positioning system has probably convinced itself a fault condition exists, or the power supply to the servo motor has a blown fuse. ?I had this issue with my Kappa 400 (same tilt controls as your machine). ?Once the system faults, you have to manually apply 24V power to the servo motor to drive it out of the fault condition. ?After I did that and the machine power cycled, ?it was fine again. ?I was able to do this using a 18V battery from one of my cordless drills, but it was certainly a PITA. ?Felder service walked me through the process over the phone.David Best https://www.instagram.com/davidpbest/

A clean, tidy and organised workspace is so inspiring
#Workshops
Hi there,
Having recently seen the wonderful workshops of David Best and Albert Lee and been inspired, I just happened across this video... For me, it has so much to offer those interested in making their workshops a more enjoyable environment to create and work. It's a long video, so I increase playback speed, allowing me to capture the essence and yet not invest too much time. Cheers David |
Re: slab door warpage
? ? ? ? ?As a furniture and cabinet maker, I too have been tempted at times to try BBirch for slab doors.? I've resisted the temptation, as experience has shown that 20-30% of the sheets develop wind (twist). So, though MDF is not my favorite substance, it's what you do with veneers. (Unless you're forming curved panels, which is basically making you own ply.)
While I don't mean to argue for the manufacturers, it's worth pointing out that this does not seem to be unique to one brand. It's just what the material can do, regardless environmental conditions and timing of the build, who left the humidifier running too long, etc. If it's that sensitive, it's the wrong material for the application. ? ?I've done lots more slab doors lately, as that's what's trending now. Particle board with melamine prints all the way up to textured HPL is all the rage. (And they're paying close to $400 a sheet for this artificial, plastic look - ain't it sad!) Follow the rules for veneering (both sides) and things work out well. Just leave the Apple ply and BBirch for jig making and shop fixtures.? ? ? When making solid wood slab doors, you simply must put battens on the back side, and be sure to include oblong holes on the far ends so those guys can flow through their annual breathing cycle without incident. Perhaps a rude awakening for some home-owners to see an old-fashioned looking brace on the? inside back, but the rules of wood movement don't change just because their style preferences did.?? More and more, my business is becoming a higher percentage of what I'll call integrated cabinetry, vs free standing furniture. = more kitchen/bath/built in work and inevitably, more slabs. None of this should generate fear, just follow the rules of dealing with wood movement, whether solid or veneered, and things should go well. Just don't let them talk you into insets with solid wood slabs! Jeff |

Re: Dado Help Needed Please
开云体育That video is for a Hammer chassis. ?The photos Bill posted are for a Kappa 40 or 400 machine. ? The 700-series external cap for the dado cutter is different. ? The following illustrates the proper outside cap for use with a dado cutter on the 700-series machines with pins.If you don’t have this style external cap, then you need to use shims/spacers on the outside of the dado cutter like you would on your spindle shaper to pad out the arbor length so that the cap you do have compresses the dado stack securely. Re: slab door warpage
Mike,?
Are you doing inset doors like Kerf does? That, in addition to them being set back from the face a bit might be key to hiding warp. I checked with States Industries this week on their take using Appleply for doors. They also show cabinet doors (first photo on the website actually). But no, they do not advise using for doors, and will not warranty the product in that application. Face palm. I called them on the misleading, maybe even false advertising nature and they said they'll look?into changing it. Doesn't help my kitchen project though. Personally, I would run from that job.? Also learned that if you have more than 40mV of drop across fuses in a panel the fuse is bad and will fail.I can't guess what he meant.? Fuse is "bad" normally means "blown".? ?"is bad and will fail" really doesn't make much sense when talking about fuses. The most fundamental principle of electrical circuits, Ohm's law (V=IxR), says voltage drop across a conductor with a given Resistance (the fuse) varies directly with the current flowing, so measuring voltage drop across a hot fuse can serve as an ammeter.? Some fuse manufacturers publish fuse specs just so one can do this.? These reveal that 40mV voltage drop typically represents about 85% of the rated fuse current. Naturally, fuses come in all sorts of varieties.? Some are rated to blow at 75% of labeled rating, some at 100% (and of course on various time scales).? ?So measuring current at 85% on a fuse that should have blown at 75% would qualify as a fuse "fail" (extremely rare). On the other hand, for a fuse that blows at 100%, measuring it at 85% might quality as "near blowing", and after blowing it would be "bad", but then of course the fuse has worked correctly, so one can't say it "failed". |
