Re: new to me, benefit of scoring

Imran,

That is a nice study in lines and angles. My KF has scoring.

i made one 45 cut and then instead of setting the xcut fence to the opposing 45, i flipped material 180 lengthwise and made the opposing cut with material upside down. i could not do that with KF700 because it does not have scoring. this is probably a std practice but new for me.

even though miters were perfect i did get occasional height variation on assembly with kreg pocket screws. this is with predrilling the opposite side and best clamping i could do. so not sure if i can improve it any more.

Hey Imran,

In the face of Kreg-jig-criticism, I must say the grain orientation of your frame is magnificent. It¡¯s quite mesmerising. Thanks for sharing.?

festool edge sanding attachment

i pre ordered and recently received this gadget

i used it to do 90 and 45 deg sanding on this

it helps making sanding more uniform. the accessory fits the sander only one way. which means that for right handed sanding the vacuum hose points towards the operator, not my preference but also not a show stopper. while the jig keeps sander face at set angle vertically, you still need to keep the face of the sander parallel to the material horizontally.

there are marks for setting sanding angles at 45, 60, 75 and 90 deg or anything in between. a green plastic part allows to fine tune the location but when i tuned to 90 deg the 45 was slightly off.

the pad that slides on the material moves out to expose the sanding pad completely. there is also a hard and soft sanding switch. i have not used soft but it appears to allow play in sanding angle.

the accessory has two halves that are connected by two hex socket head screws.

Re: Looking Into a Felder

Lots of experience here on options and mistakes others have made.? Share your thinking and you will get lots of mostly consistent input.? Felder builds all machines to order and if any are available in the showroom for sale it¡¯s because a customer backed out.? I understand the leadtime is 6 months or so right now.? I¡¯ve worked with Carl at Felder who I think lives in LA and he has been very helpful too.

michal,

felder makes many different tools. what are you looking to buy? saw, shaper, jointer, bandsaw, CNC, ...

there are single and combo options.

you can buy new or used

where are you located on the globe

here is the felder usa site

if in USA you can call (866) 792-5288 and ask to speak with the sales person for your area.

Re: outrigger for KF700S

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I have the KF700SP with the 10¡¯6¡± slider, and the 4¡¯ outrigger. Sorry, I don¡¯t think in metric, so I just used an imperial tape measure to get rough measurements.?

I remove the fence from the outrigger, and slide the outrigger as far to the right as it will go. Then I use the shaper with the power feeder with no problems. ?The outrigger support arm is a tripping hazard that one must adjust to. It¡¯s not an ideal solution, but it works for me.?

When I do freehand shaper work, I remove the outrigger so that I can work without the tripping hazard. So far, no problems.?

Like many of you, I agree that separates are the best option if space and budgets allow.?

Stay safe,

Alex

Re: kip lever question

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Plenty strong enough, and you don¡¯t need to ratchet, they pivot anywhere you want them. The ones I got for 5/16 studs are pretty large, so you might have to reduce the size of the thru stud on the clamp, thus using a smaller threaded t-nut.

Re: kip lever question

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

thanks Jerry. good to know. currently i have to remove the kip lever to lift my homemade clamp off slider - your suggestion should speed it up. issue is that i made the slider nut too long and it does not come out due to slider handle being in the way. i may just notch the handle wall to be done.

going from using clamps on KF700 w/o outrigger to K975 with outrigger is a diff experience. primarily due to the short xcut fence fixed tnut and inability to slide the clamp off because handle is in the way.
