Hi David Best,

When SW posted his question I was happy to anticipate riding on his coattails for some good ideas. Your reply has exceeded my hopes. IMHO, you could contribute significantly to the next rev of the Blickpunkt Werkstatt. I and the rest of the FOG regulars are indebted to you for your so many insightful contributions, and the generous sets of photos are never TMI for me.

Ideas I found to be especially useful included: the holes beneath the shaper cutter edges to assist in picking them up; laying the magnetic bars down on the drawer bottoms to keep chisels in place (mine are wall- mounted, with space filling up too quickly and the end- rings on my Japanese chisels falling off when they loosen as the wood shrinks in Colorado’s dry air); and, the graduated wall height on the scrap storage bin (I am too often searching for shorter pieces amongst the taller ones – such a simple and practical idea to graduate the height.)

Lastly, one humble suggestion to make, a warning sticker on the booze cabinet: DANGER: For Use Only at Day’s End ?

Thanks again so much for this.

Cheers, Eric Janson

Lucky, yes I had to improvise with what I have, I only do this part time so I cant justify spending $$ on a dedicated industrial complex.?
the dead zone behind panel saw is really useful for bandsaw, I can almost utilise the slider if I need to.?

I cut full sheet (8x4) ply, particle board or MDF from time to time, no issues. it just clears. however there is only about 5'8" to the right of the panel saw, not ideal, if I get long stock I cut it outside.?

Put the selector button in reverse for the shaper, see if the yellow light comes on. If it doesn’t, you have an open connection in your e-stop string. All the limit switches and stop buttons are daisy chained into one circuit, if any of them are open, you can’t start the machine.

outrigger for KF700S

For the KF 700S the Felder catalog lists the 1300mm outrigger as standard, while also listing the three lenghts available for the slider.

Yet, I have been told that if you get anything other than the 8 foot slider, you must choose the 1500mm outrigger. Can anyone confirm whether or not I can order a 9 foot slider with a 1300mm outrigger??

Shops/Guys buy the whole kit and kaboodle in Felder gear and then they figure out WWing isnt for them or the shop goes under and they have to sell brand new machines. A shop in Michigan just did that a few months ago. 900 series saw, shaper, planer, and jointer that were only a year or two old.?

Hi Steve,

i really appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback. yes i was interested in this model for metal work. the auction also has a model with higher speed range more appropriate for wood. an urgent family matter came up last night so i am unable to pursue this. actually auction might be close to over by now. seems like good price but there is no word on condition. had i foond it earlier i could have seen them in person. i did. find out that all 20” doall bandsaws are 460V.

Chris,

ASAIK, you can use 40mm or 50mm blades/limiters in the larger felder universal safety cutter head. the smaller felder universal safety cutterhead only uses 40mm blades.

i assume that only a small portion of the blade can be unsupported. hope this is helpful.

Chris, as long as holes match up there would be 7.5 overhang ,, no issue at all but I would ask whitall what they think there ?is a rule of thumb, based on knife thickness just don’t remember what it is, Rengate or Schmidt would be better qualified , I am going by my experience only with 60 degree corrugated.
Although I do have a few of those heads.
Ther is also rule of thumb for knife thickness to knife extension past cutter body.

Albert:

Thanks for the shop pics. You really pack it in. I was reminded of how the bandsaw can be positioned quite effectively in the dead zone off to the right and behind the sliding table saw (when standing at the slider). I have the impression, however, that your combo thicknesser/jointer would be in the way of your sliding table saw work, especially if you had something big on the saw — like a sheet of ply, or a large table, desk, door, etc. Do you move it when necessary, or is there actually more room than I imagine...?

Thanks again for sharing.

Warm regards,
Lucky
