UHMW, you can get it online from Plastic Supply houses or places like McMaster or MSC. That is a good solution, and watching your video, the wheel is obviously out of round and when it hits the low spot, your fence extrusion is hitting the table causing it to grab and make all the racket.

What is that inserted material I’m looking at? ?I did find a flat spot on my wheel. ?Felder is still “reviewing” my video. ?I was thinking maybe there’s an aftermarket wheel that is made of nylon that would be much quieter too.

Wade my Hammer K3 made this noise and it is the roller wheel under the cast housing that holds the fence. Flip it over and check that roller

Hey Steve,
I contacted Chuck, over at GrnGate. ?He made up a new, longer, sensor cable so that I could route this into the saw cabinet. ?I connected it right to the power cable going directly to the main saw motor and problem solved! ?Thank you for the tip.

John, you aren’t likely to find the square I have - I bought up the last 10 units in the US several years ago for fellow FOG members. ?Since then I haven’t seen the Polish version available. ?At times, Grizzly imports a clone from Taiwan, but I do not see it in their current catalog. ? I agree with Dave Kumm - Brian’s square was developed specifically to fill this need and has lots of other uses.

200 x 300 is probably large enough, and can be found at reasonable prices, but I want to consider my options.

David, your Flickr video seems to show you checking along approximately 6” of the edge of the square. Is there a need, or merit, to use a larger square? Would an 8” x 12” square be sufficient? I ask because I see demonstrations with much larger
precision squares. Given that the fence is an extrusion rather than a machined surface there are probably pros and cons to small versus large squares.
The square I use is 500 x 250mm, and it’s 10mm thick. ?It’s a precision machinist square made in Poland and very accurate. ?I like it because it has a thick edge to indicate again - most machinist squares have a thick heavy short leg and a thin blade for
the longer leg so they don’t naturally lay flat on a surface like the sliding table. ?
I generally put the long edge against the crosscut fence and indicate to the short leg. ?If I get less than 0.0005” of indicator deflection over the 10” length of the short leg, I’m happy with that level of accuracy. ? That’s equivalent to 0.006” over
10 feet - about the thickness of a sheet of ink jet printer paper - and certainly more accurate than any 5-sided cut test.
If you want more assurance on accuracy, Brian Lamb makes a very nice precision triangle-shaped square that is 1/4” thick and 16x24 inches. Details on his square are here: ?

That does look much faster and easier than the 5-cut method. I had never seen the 5-cut method used before, but by the time Jason had set both fences he had used up a lot of that piece of melamine!

Positively stone-aged method. ?Highly prone to error & non-deterministic, wastes materials, boggles the mind. ?But given the scant tools provided to Felder technicians, it’s about all they can do. ?This is a more accurate and simple procedure.

Congrats John! I’ve been using mine, just not as much as I’d like. Too many other things going on right now. And, lumber prices are through the roof. Really I’m putting my shop back together after getting the saw in. I’ll be up in Boise to see my brother this spring and would love to stop by if you wouldn’t mind a visiter.

I asked my neighbor if he had experience operating a skid-steer. It turned out that he was not only experienced but had a couple to choose from. He picked it off the trailer, took it up my back yard, and put it on my patio. We used his loader to take the machine off the pallet.
Felder commissioned it. Now I need to figure out where to put everything else, and learn to use the machine.
I truly appreciate the willingness of FOG members to answer my questions!
