I've converted machines before but never one with braking, ordinarily I would fit a dual capacitor motor (Capacitor start, Capacitor Run) to something with such a heavy starting load but the centrifugal switch on the back of the motor means mechanical braking isn't an option.

A couple of suppliers have told me that DC braking isn't compatible with dual capacitor motors which is odd as i'm sure thats what is fitted to the combination machines.

I missed what model bandsaw but is the brake injection or mechanical?? A mechanical brake on the shaft or motor fan that engages when the power is cut is a different animal and requires a motor than can accept the mechanism.? Dave

Machine in question is a bandsaw, so nothing fancy

If you want to convert a 3-phase machine that has a braked motor,?

can you change it to single phase without needing to change the electronics or do you need to change everything?
