A router propels chips with velocity and momentum that a hood 12-18" away like that won't overcome.? ?So unless you're working the router so that it's aiming at the hood, that thing will do almost nothing.? ?
Although drill press doesn't impart the same velocity, your DC and that hood thing won't even begin to overcome the gravity acting on the chips.
