It'll Run 2
A few minutes after I sent out the link to the Talladega video I found this young man's YouTube channel that many of you may enjoy watching. He's got a '69 Torino GT fastback that he's restoring. As he explains on his channel "... it doesn't currently run and that's what this channel is all about. I will be recording my progress and giving you guys updates along the way. My goal is get this car back on the road again and hopefully learn and have a good time. I hope you enjoy!" A link to his channel videos: https://www.youtube.com/@itllrun6030/videos And here's one of his most recent videos where he explains the history of the Torino: https://www.youtube.com/@itllrun6030/videos Send him a few likes and comments if you can to encourage his progress. Talladega Racing Video 2
I just watched an interesting video about why a design feature in the Talladega made a permanent change to NASCAR rules. I'd never heard this before, and the video has some nice vintage racing footage to go along with the story. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FNDqM2X4VI Tony

windshield replacement 4
has anybody ever replaced their windshield or back glass on a fastback them self? what is all involved on doing the job yourself? how hard is it to get the top molding unhooked from the retaining clips? do you have to take any inside trim off? any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

Mustang brake upgrade 12
I know some of you are Mustang gurus and that the answer would be the same for the fairlane. I have a friend with a 69 Mustang V8 with non power shoe brakes. He would like to add at least front disc brakes to improve braking. What vendor would you recommend and would you also add power booster?

69 Cobra formal roof door trim 5
I am (back to) trying to verify if 69 Cobra formal roofs came with the chrome door strip above the door panels. I first noticed in 2002 at the Fairlane Nationals in St Louis that mine and Jon Huntley did not have the chrome trim but the other (sportsroof) Cobras did. I addressed the question shortly after in an email with Jon. He stated that the Cobra formal roofs were based off the base Fairlane 65A body style. The Cobra sportsroof were based on Fairlane 500 63B body style. The reasoning (obviously) the two Cobra versions weren¡¯t based off the same model was the base Fairlane wasn¡¯t offered as a sportsroof model. Based on that email it was my understanding the base Fairlane didn¡¯t have the chrome trim and the Fairlane 500 did. Even though the sportsroof Cobras didn't use the Fairlane 500 standard door panels (inheriting the base Fairlane door panels instead) the chrome strip remained. Ford literature also shows the chrome strip on Fairlane 500¡¯s and not on the base Fairlane. Pictures attached. I asked Warren Mansfield (FCA 68-69 tech editor) the question. He he wasn¡¯t sure although his formal roof Cobra (which he bought new) did come with the trim. I follow the major car auctions and the Cobras that are sold. The majority of the formal roofs have the trim although that doesn¡¯t mean they originally came with them. Larry Slevin¡¯s twenty thousand mile triple black formal roof car (since sold) that was featured many times in articles and a multiple award winner does not have the trim. I was also told that Kansas City built formal roof Cobras did not come with the trim but Atlanta built cars did. So I am really confused. To add to the mystery I am adding some pictures from a 69 Fairlane that was sold this year at Meecum. Sold as an all orginal car with fourteen thousand miles. It has the chrome trim. I am not trying to make my car a concourse correct car. At this point I am more curious than anything. Any insights and/or the answer would be appreciated. Jim of MO

68-'69 Dash Spears 2
Was at a junkyard yesterday picking up my interior trim. Asked the owner(84 years old) if he had anymore Torino¡¯s/Fairlanes. He said he had four or five one being a two owner 68 Fairlane 500 four door sedan. Dash was in ok shape as was the dash spear. He said he would sell the spear but wasn¡¯t crazy about the idea of removing the dash. One hour or so later I had the dash removed and the spear out. Attaching picture of the 68 spear along with my orginal spear from my 69. All the post match up and I can¡¯t tell any different from the two spears other than color differences. Interesting the blue of the 68 spear has a teal / fluorescent tint to it. Jim On Jun 19, 2023, at 7:06 PM, Dennis Bregitzer <dennis.bregitzer@...> wrote: ? We often say they are black, and they are. But since I have NEVER seen an NOS one I am not certain I belive that. If you look closely at the pictures attached you will see that there are remnants of argent on either side of the rib. This leads me to believe that there was likely not a completely black background. I have two others that look very similar to this. I know that they are different, I just don't know how much they are different. I could be that the 68 units just did not hold up, so a change was made in 69 to help with that. I doubt that would be the whole story. I say this because the guages were black in 68 and silver in 69, so I feel like some of the spear changes are going to be tied to that. So if you ever get to see a perfect one (I know they exist) take pictures for me. I know the NPD car is supposed to be like new. But I have never seen it. Hope this helps. -- ============================================================ I am Linc..... Soom in and you can just make out some of the delamination/lifting of the plastic lamination in spots (looks wavy) on the spear. Then the recessed/non-raised part is black. Then there is a clear protective plastic laminated over all of it. Though I don't know IF this clear section is also how they applied the black or not. I don't know, but don't think so. IIRC the '69 is for the most part the same as the '68, just the recessed/non-raised portion is argent/silv

Looking for Heater Core Source 8
My car and I are currently in heater core hell. Years ago when reassembling my car I purchased a new brass unit that failed immediately with a hairline crack at the tank seam where one of the tubes is installed so I grabbed an aluminum Spectra unit which have since overwhelmed the market from one of the usual parts suspects. I found that the design of the Spectra unit made it about 1/8 inch too long to reinstall the cover back on the heater box when even a minimum of internal padding was installed so I made a seal for the cover which was ever so slightly thicker than the original to allow me to seal the case, When installing the heater box with the Spectra unit installed I found that the tubes barely protruded enough to allow the hose clamps to be installed and, at that point, the clamps were deeply imbedded in the foam rubber seal that covers the firewall in the engine bay. No I was not trying to rig this project, I had an event to get to and had no time for sourcing another core. I recently removed the unit to resolve the issue and found the tubes for the heater hoses are 1/2 inch shorter than each of the 2 brass cores I have (which are within 1/8" tube length of each other). I ordered another core with a different manufacturer and part number only to find the same dimensions and a sticker with the same part number as the Spectra unit, 94571, stuck on the bottom of the core. Does anyone have a good source for heater cores with proper dimension or should I try to find a radiator shop to repair what I have? LLLLlllllooooyyd

Dash spear differences 5
Hi guys I have been lurking in the background as a member but haven¡¯t contributed before. So hello everyone. About ten years ago I bought a dash spear from Marty to use for my 68 car, it didn¡¯t work, and these were my observations at the time: The unfortunate news is the repro part does not fit a 68 dash. These are the differences: Most of the pins on the 69 repro part aren't in exactly the same position as the 68 original, and you therefore have to consider redrilling the dash, enlarging holes, or cutting some pins clean off to make it work. Whatever end you start with, the pins are slightly out in most cases, and the problem is progressive, i.e. the pins get further out of alignment as you go along. The second pin from the right end is most obviously out of alignment, and an anomaly. Aligning the spear centrally is problematic, since the pins are not correctly located for the holes in the dash at both ends. If you attempt to align the pins at both ends, the spear bows in the middle. The spear is not exactly the same size - the 69 repro part extends about 1/3" longer than the original 68 and is in fact slightly too long for the dash recess. In addition: The chrome rib is noticeably wider and has a higher profile than the original 68 spear The colour bars are much wider and thicker on the repro 69 part The background colour is silver, where the original is black The spear tips have a different, more pointed profile on the repro part than the 68 original. Hopefully this gives you some insight into the situation, and how much compromise you are willing to accept. Cheers Matthew
