'68-'69 Reproduction Dash Pad Review

Someone is making a reproduction of the dash pads for our '68-'69 cars.?
Right now it's available from Top Flight Automotive for just over $500.?
Here's a nice review of the pad for anyone who may be interested.? They
are not concours correct, but for a restomod or daily fun driver it
looks amazing.? Marty, you get a nice shout out in the video, too!

I saw that video. It's a nice looking reproduction dash pad. Plus Dakota Digital now offers gauges for our cars too. Black and white faced, $945. There's also a reproduction hood for our cars too. He reviews that on his channel.?

I bougth one but have not seen it yet. Since my car isn't really 'correct' and is more of
a tribute car, I didn't think it would matter much. ?Now if only someone would make a?
68 dash spear.... a guy can dream I suppose

Warren Mansfield has contacted this vendor and they are sending one of these dashes to Kingsport for us to review. Looking forward to seeing it.
Obviously it is not concourse correct but I¡¯m happy someone is doing these for those who want a driver quality piece

Will, ,Linc is talking about the long spear mounted on the dash pad above the glovebox. And from my understanding, those who have attempted to correctly paint it black for the '68s have not had much luck as once the masking tape is removed the black paint doesn't stay on the part.?

Will, the original '68 spear is a laminated piece where the raised ridge down the center is chrome with the Red, White, Blue marking on the right end.
Then the recessed/non-raised part is black. Then there is a clear protective plastic laminated over all of it. Though I don't know IF this clear section
is also how they applied the black or not. I don't know, but don't think so.

IIRC the '69 is for the most part the same as the '68, just the recessed/non-raised portion is argent/silver instead of black and I don't think
It is laminated, but can't remember.

Years ago I bought the repo silver(argent/chrome) '69 spear as a spare and had planned at sometime to attempt to paint it black like the '68.

Will they will interchange in the sense that they will both "bolt up"/fit in the same location and serve the same function.
But a 100% correct interchange, no, because of the asthetics differences.

In the attached pic (which is a side view) of my original '68 dash and spear. Soom in and you can just make out some of the delamination/lifting
of the plastic lamination in spots (looks wavy) on the spear. Sorry, at the moment I don't have any other good pics of any of my '68 spears.

Thanks for the photo. Yeah, I wasn't looking for 100% concours restoration on my car. I went with more of a restomod. Built it the way I wanted it, but kept it in the original colors when my Mom bought it new. It's nice to know how the spear is supposed to look, if I ever decide to redo it. Thanks again!?
I added a photo of it too. I'm hoping to get it to the Nationals one day!

So here are a bunch of pictures of a 1968 Spear. ?We often say they are black, and they are. But
since I have NEVER seen an NOS one I am not certain I belive that. ?If you look closely at the pictures
attached you will see that there are remnants of argent on either side of the rib. This leads me to
believe that there was likely not a completely black background. ?I have two others that look
very similar to this.?

I know that they are different, I just don't know how much they are different. ?I could be that the
68 units just did not hold up, so a change was made in 69 to help with that. ?I doubt that would
be the whole story. ?I say this because the guages were black in 68 and silver in 69, so I feel like
some of the spear changes are going to be tied to that.

So if you ever get to see a perfect one (I know they exist) take pictures for me. ?I know the NPD
car is supposed to be like new. But I have never seen it.?

Hope this helps.?

But a 100% correct interchange, no, because of the asthetics differences.

In the attached pic (which is a side view) of my original '68 dash and spear. Soom in and you can just make out some of the delamination/lifting
of the plastic lamination in spots (looks wavy) on the spear. Sorry, at the moment I don't have any other good pics of any of my '68 spears.

Oh ok, thanks. I never knew they were supposed to be black. My father had the one in my car replaced years ago with one from a Ranchero. Don't know if he replaced the spear with one from a '69 or not. It's always been bright like chrome since I was little. I'm just gonna leave it, I like it like that.?

Will, ,Linc is talking about the long spear mounted on the dash pad above the glovebox. And from my understanding, those who have attempted to correctly paint it black for the '68s have not had much luck as once the masking tape is removed the black paint doesn't stay on the part.?

You must not be talking about the trim over the glove box. Sorry Linc, that's what I thought you were looking for.?

I bougth one but have not seen it yet. Since my car isn't really 'correct' and is more of
a tribute car, I didn't think it would matter much.? Now if only someone would make a?

Someone is making a reproduction of the dash pads for our '68-'69 cars.?
Right now it's available from Top Flight Automotive for just over $500.?
Here's a nice review of the pad for anyone who may be interested.? They
are not concours correct, but for a restomod or daily fun driver it
looks amazing.? Marty, you get a nice shout out in the video, too!
