Re: '69 Fairlane sheet metal, again
开云体育
I have some update pics of my project; in case anyone is interested. I have the inner rockers welded in and a damaged left A pillar replaced. I found out the guy that made the rocker parts, made them about 3/16" undersized on the side where the floors connect,
so I have some creative sheet metal work to do on the floors. That's ok, because the floor pans are for a coupe and have to be massaged for a convertible anyway. After I get all the floor structure welded, and some additional brackets made, I can start on
cowl repair and installing floors.

Hello Steve,
First I have to say that you are awefully ambitious to do that work wthout ?a 'spot welder' if that
means you don't have a 'welder' at all. If you just mean you don't have a dedicated spot welder,
then you don't need that. Pop some holes with a drill or punch in your new panel and then fill
them with a mig welder. That is how the majority of the world does it.
As for panel bonding, nope Nope NOPE.. Not this guy. ?The are great and they work wonderful
for some amount of time, but they were never designed to last long term. ?In 2010 a shop that
was fixing my F350 told me my one bed side was going to have to be replaced. I knew their reputation
and told them "Sure, do it at long as you weld it 100%" ?They welded the top edge and the front
edge but used panel bond everywhere else and I was not happy. Five years later the back of the?
panel started flapping in the wind while driving. ?I had to scrape it all out, clay it up, and the spot
weld while doing heat mitigation to save the paint. ?To years later the filler panel that goes?
between the bed and bed site, that the tailgate hangs on, let go and my tailgate fell and hung
from the cables. Damaged my bedsite and tailgate.
Just weld it. ?That is where I stand.

Re: Question on seat brackets
开云体育
Hey Dave,
? Yes, I still need an answer. It hasn't been critical yet because I'm still working on the inner rockers and floors. (more on that in an update email I'll send).
The MPC for a 65 (coupe) body shows different supports for the seats than a 76 (convertible) body. It also shows the part I'm asking about for bucket seats, but doesn't show it in the 76 body schematics. I'm trying to find out if the bracket will fit in a convertible,
or if it's even used, and if not, is there something else or just a hole in the floor. I've included snips showing the parts. The first is the 65 body with bracket in question. The second is a 76 body with floor support, but not the inner bracket. The second
pic also shows part 617B70 as the outer rear seat support on the underside of the floor, but nothing for the inner rear seat (Bucket) support. I'm trying to find out what I need to convert to bucket seats, and mimic the factory.

Steve,
Sorry for the late reply. Are you still needing an answer on this part? Sorry I don't remember and don't currently know where the pics my dad took of the floors during and after the floor pans were replaced in my '68 convertible. When I saw the title, I thought you were asking about the spacers under the rear of the front seat frame adjuster rails. IF pics from the under side of the car floor/transmission tunnel would help, I can see IF the digital pics I have show enough of that area. IF it would also help, I have some floor pics of a 4 speed Fastback parts car I could also send you. Send me a direct email to dhadley390@.... David from WNY

Re: 1969 Cobra for sale
Up to '68 paint code: " I " was called "Lime Gold". And Ford # 2041-A (per my Marty Report). IIRC after '68 model year the " I " paint code was called "Lime Metallic" for/till at least '70 model year. I have attached a pic (sorry for the low rez quality) of a PPG paint chip page for '68 Fords. Also of note IIRC T-Bird and Lincoln had different names for at least some of the same paint colors as used on Ford products. Though T-Bird and Lincoln did have some specific colors that were ONLY listed available for them. Back around then both GM/Chevy and Mopar had a paint color close to Ford's Lime Gold, I would say GM's was closer and Mopars looked a little "dirtier" compared to Ford's. The "Lime Gold" looks way better than the "Pea Soup" reference (which I have heard before). One last note. The "Legend Lime" Ford used on the new 2005 Mustangs (and later on some other Fords) IS CLOSE to the original "Lime Gold" BUT is NOT the same. I would say it is a bit brighter than the old Lime Gold. Re: 428CJ H-Pipe
Summit, Jegs and some others have "Universal H-Pipe" kits, IIRC they come in some different sizes. It's just the H section you assemble and then you would need to fab/weld on the elbows and flanges as needed to mate up to the manifolds/headers as the case may be. IF you are in need of Brake, Fuel and IF auto Trany lines I suggest Classic Tubes for Pre Bent lines. They do regular OEM type steel, stainless and likely nickle. The Pre Bent stainless Brake and Trany lines I got from them for my Torino only needed a slight tweak, otherwise were a drop in fit and finish. I had to do more tweaking to the Inline Tube Brake lines I got for my Fairlane 500. IF I ever need Pre Bent lines again and I had the money at the time I would buy the Classic Tubes lines. https://manufacturing.classictube.com/#contact 1.800.882.3711 Local: 716-759-1800 sales@... Re: 428CJ H-Pipe
I don't know IF Pypes offers a kit with a larger diameter H pipe for our cars. That said, how much difference is there in the Mustang/Cougar H pipe (and IF larger is available for them) or even something for Full Size Fords (including the 428 PI cars and/or with Towing Package) with a high performance FE. IF larger is available for any of these and different enough you could weigh the cost of having a reputable local exhaust shop rebend and/or modify as needed OR/VS custom make one to fit our cars. Does anyone know IF the T-Bolts or 427 '66/67 Fairlanes had larger H pipes than the 428CJ cars? IF so, this H pipe MIGHT be easier to retrofit into our cars. IF you haven't already done so, you could contact Precision Exhaust to see IF they could/are able to and would make a larger H pipe for our cars. That is IF they don't already have something. Re: 1969 Cobra for sale
开云体育I'm trying to figure out what color the
car was originally.? From your description I'm guessing that it
was Dark Ivy Green (metallic, also known as Black Jade Poly, paint
code C).? Can you read the code off the body plate and confirm
this?? Now I'm curious.? I was researching Cobra colors a while
ago for a friend with a body shop and printed out that information
someone had compiled on-line from Marti Reports and just happened
to have it handy right now.? Black Jade was the most popular color
of the Hardtop Cobras, 690 of the 3,786 vehicles were done in this
color.? Oddly, the second most popular color was Candy Apple Red
at 681.? I would have guessed red for first place.? The numbers
drop dramatically after that with Indian Fire at 411, Lime Gold at
241, Wimbledon White at 239 and Gulfstream Aqua at 222.? All the
other colors are less than 200 each.

Re: 1969 Cobra for sale
开云体育Hi Jay,The original color is a pea soup green with a bit of metalflake in it. Not sure of official name. The current paint has pearl in it so it changes color with different light. The car had 10,000 miles on it when I got it in 1983, I put on another 10,000. The car was drag raced for a number of years and was towed to and from the strip. No, it was never tubbed for huge rear tires. It was the second owner, Steve, who raced it. I'm the 4th owner so Steve never had any reason to lie to me about what he did with the engine. He used a solid lifter cam, (which I have), but now has an unknown hydraulic cam in it. I have a NOS Ford Motor Sports hydraulic cam for it that's a bit hotter than stock. It's been bored 30 thou so I figure it's now a 433. The heads have been cc'd. I had the valve guides redone. Steve's wife told me that the connecting rods have been polished to the point where you can see yourself in them as the only way she could spend time with her husband was to polish connecting rods. It has TRW forged pistons. It's been balanced. It has the adjustable rocker arms on it. I never did get them properly adjusted. I got them from Steve. It had the standard rockers on it when I got it. It had an 8 pound flywheel on it. I put a heavier McLeod flywheel on it. It has a Lakewood Scattershield on it. It has the original 735cfm Holley carb on it. It sits on the Ford Sidewinder aluminum intake manifold, if memory serves me its a C6AE 9424/J The distributor has had the vacuum advance removed and the centrifugal weights are curved for racing. I have a replacement distributor for it. I also have way too many extra parts for it to list in this reply. Some of them are made of unobtanium. LOL Hope this answers your question. I'm putting my 1969 Cobra Formal Roof up for sale. 20,000 miles. No body work required. Excellent custom paint. 4 speed Ram Air. Many many spare parts, too many to list here. See pics below. Asking $35,000 Canadian, about $24,000 USD. It's been sitting for about 15 years. Been stored inside for over 95% of it's life. Needs maintenance.
