Re: Question on seat brackets
Brad, Thank you for the pics. Steve and Brad, As I recall my '68 vert (early Jan '68 build date) had 4 of those front seat "tower" spacers (3rd & 4th pics), 2 on the back of each bucket seat. When I put the interior back in I didn't reinstall the "tower" spacers which slightly and nicely reclined and lowered the seats. For me, making it easier to get in and more comfortable. YMMV. Steve, Brad's underside pics show the stiffening plate bolted in place how an where it should be. Which the pics I sent you showed it uninstalled out of the car and the pics of the original stiffening plate & a original mounting bolt (total of 6 are used) with measurements. This due to me needing to make spacers so the stiffening plate would clear the larger diameter 2008 Crown Vic PI (Police Interceptor) aluminum driveshaft I retrofitted in. Brad,
? Thanks. Here's a pic of my floor pan. The box #A is where the outer rear seat mount for a bench seat, and probably bucket seat, is?located. Mine's rusted away. David Hadley has sent pictures of the underside of his car, showing just a hole for the inner seat
bracket bolt along the transmission tunnel for bucket seats, and believes there is a removable spacer on top (boxes B & C). If you could verify if anything is welded to the floor in locations B & C, or if it's just a spacer on the bolt, I'd appreciate it.

I currently have a 68 Torino convertible on my hoist. Bucket seats and interior removed. If you still need some pictures of floor I can send you some. Original floor in excellent condition. Just let me know what pictures you need.?

In a way, I'm glad I got floor pans that need modified. I have extra material to make up the 3/16" gap!

It's coming along nicely!!!
Yes on the floor pans needing to be modified to fit convertibles. When the shop was replacing the floor pans on my convertible they told me I got the wrong pans. I told them NOPE, those were the ONLY pans available and they would need to cut them to fit. Oh the joys of having a convertible... lol David from WNY On Thursday, January 16, 2025 at 07:39:25 PM EST, Steve W via groups.io <fords65273@...> wrote:
I have some update pics of my project; in case anyone is interested. I have the inner rockers welded in and a damaged left A pillar replaced. I found out the guy that made the rocker parts, made them about 3/16" undersized on the side where the floors connect,
so I have some creative sheet metal work to do on the floors. That's ok, because the floor pans are for a coupe and have to be massaged for a convertible anyway. After I get all the floor structure welded, and some additional brackets made, I can start on
cowl repair and installing floors.

Hello Steve,
First I have to say that you are awefully ambitious to do that work wthout ?a 'spot welder' if that
means you don't have a 'welder' at all. If you just mean you don't have a dedicated spot welder,
then you don't need that. Pop some holes with a drill or punch in your new panel and then fill
them with a mig welder. That is how the majority of the world does it.
As for panel bonding, nope Nope NOPE.. Not this guy. ?The are great and they work wonderful
for some amount of time, but they were never designed to last long term. ?In 2010 a shop that
was fixing my F350 told me my one bed side was going to have to be replaced. I knew their reputation
and told them "Sure, do it at long as you weld it 100%" ?They welded the top edge and the front
edge but used panel bond everywhere else and I was not happy. Five years later the back of the?
panel started flapping in the wind while driving. ?I had to scrape it all out, clay it up, and the spot
weld while doing heat mitigation to save the paint. ?To years later the filler panel that goes?
between the bed and bed site, that the tailgate hangs on, let go and my tailgate fell and hung
from the cables. Damaged my bedsite and tailgate.
Just weld it. ?That is where I stand.
