Re: Build Sheet

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Hello Group,

I have published this all many times, but since the topic came up again...

Here the recorded locations that build sheets have been found.

Seats - (placed here by the trim team)
Inside the seat front backs (buckets or Bench)
Between the main springs and foam seat bottoms (Front or Rear)

Flooring - (Placed when body heads to final assembly)
Under the carpet in any location
Under the trunk mat
Inside the Passenger Kick Panel

Random
There have been two found above the headliner
There has been one found behind the sail panel
There have been four found above the glove box, usually wrapped to the harness
There was one found in the quarter dog leg (Probably started under the trunk mat)

The reality is that, other than the seating, these can be found wherever they were
deposited by the line personnel. So you should look for them and take care to preserve
them. When and if you find them look at the rotation number, and then compare to the
rotation number on your car. Your rotation number can be found a variety of places but most
common are the outside of the front fender apron near the core support. The second
most common location is the drivers side behind there rear bumper on the tail panel.

You can find multiple copies of your build sheet, you can also find copies of build
sheets for other vehicles. You can also get the rotation number in multiple location and
have them be different. These things happened and have been documented. But don't
ask me why, I can only say 'because humans were involved".

Best of luck to you.

Dave,

Yes, I have also heard of build sheets under the rear seat.

As I still have my original bill of sale,? for the Boss 429, I have the VIN for it.
This could be interesting.

Thanks for the stories. Most interesting and educational.

Major winter blizzard here today.

Pete I gave in a previous email/post a list of locations where the Build Sheet might be located (IF it still survives in the car). The Build Sheet for my 68 Fairlane 500 was located in the back seat between the springs & cushions (IIRC it was the Bottom section). I managed to get it out WITHOUT damage. BUT it would be easier, safer & BEST to have a helper or 2 to hold the springs away while another person carefully fishes out the Build Sheet. Remember these are VARY fragile & brittle due to the age of the paper. It would also be BEST to take clear pics of it BEFORE removal of it (IF you find it).

Dave & Pete, Marti has SOME Original Ford Invoices for specific cars built in Lorain available for sale. You can check his website to get a list of what cars & prices.

.

Dave Scroll down the page to where the 70 & 71 Torino Cobras are & click on your year. It will take you to another page to enter info. The type tires will be likely be listed (like shown in the example they have posted a pic of).

Pete scroll down to the Boss 429 section.

Dave,

Look for the build sheet under the drivers seating location, between
the stuffing and the springs that hold up the seat pan.

No disassembly required, just a flashlight and a bit of careful handling
when getting it unstuck.

The vin starts out 0H38C. According to Ford, that part shows it to have been made at the Loraine assembly plant.?
I would imagine the original spare has been long used up since he has no idea what tires it came with.
?As far as the build sheet, I am going to ask him. I don't think he has taken the car apart to look for it. I will suggest that to him when I talk to him next.?
We do know that the car was made on his 16th birthday. That is the day he was able to get his permit and drive here in NY.?

David from WNY,

Yes I'm Canadian, but this was a Boss 429 Mustang that could only have
come from
Kar Kraft in Detroit, or wherever they were. It had the KK 429 NASCAR,
decal on the
drivers door, right above, or, below,? I think it was above, the metal
VIN tag, which also said,
at the bottom, "Special Performance Vehicle". I sure hope my memory is
serving me correctly here.

Anyway, for this conversation, the car involved most likely totally
deletes the Canadian concern.

With any other car, I would share your worries.

A lot can depend on what the customer (which could be the dealer or a person who walked in & ordered the car) ordered IF ordered different from factory equipped for that series (in this case Cobra). Has he found the Build Sheet in the car (under the carpet, under seat springs front or back both bottoms & backs, under the dash maybe above the glovebox)? Where was this car made? I think & am fairly sure the Wide Ovals (which were Bias Ply) were still installed on the 1970 Ford performance cars but can't remember for 100%.
