Re: Build Sheet
Pete what ever happened to your Boss 9 ? Please tell us a story if you will. :) As to the story abt the Vet & Customs. The agent said that it wouldn't matter IF the car was originally build in the US, but because it was exported to Canada you would still need documentation from GM US stating said Vet meets/met US DOT & Emission laws. Now what is interesting much more recently is there have been articles on Yahoo abt specific cars (performance cars from Japan or other countries) that are now 25 years old. The reason for this is those cars were NEVER allowed into the US because they were NOT built to meet US DOT safety & Emission laws. But NOW that they are 25+ years old they are EXEMPT from that & can now be imported into the US. Now at the time that we asked abt the Vet it wasn't 25 yet & I also don't think that law in it's current form was around then because we also asked abt older cars & it was the same thing we would have had to get documentation from the US based manufacture of that car stating it met safety & emissions laws/standards. Anyways... You might have gotten some the efects of the weather that blew through yesterday at 40+ MPH it was wet & windy for a bit & then it was gone. As I still have my original bill of sale,? for the Boss 429, I have the VIN for it. This could be interesting. Thanks for the stories. Most interesting and educational. The Build Sheet for my 68 Fairlane 500 was located in the back seat between the springs & cushions (IIRC it was the Bottom section). I managed to get it out WITHOUT damage. BUT it would be easier, safer & BEST to have a helper or 2 to hold the springs away while another person carefully fishes out the Build Sheet. Remember these are VARY fragile & brittle due to the age of the paper. It would also be BEST to take clear pics of it BEFORE removal of it (IF you find it). Dave & Pete, Marti has SOME Original Ford Invoices for specific cars built in Lorain available for sale. You can check his website to get a list of what cars & prices. . Dave Scroll down the page to where the 70 & 71 Torino Cobras are & click on your year. It will take you to another page to enter info. The type tires will be likely be listed (like shown in the example they have posted a pic of). Pete scroll down to the Boss 429 section. I would imagine the original spare has been long used up since he has no idea what tires it came with. ?As far as the build sheet, I am going to ask him. I don't think he has taken the car apart to look for it. I will suggest that to him when I talk to him next.? We do know that the car was made on his 16th birthday. That is the day he was able to get his permit and drive here in NY.? Dave Buchanan
