Hi folks,?

2020 is the 50th anniversary of Alaska State Parks, and they want to celebrate big. There are several events planned in the Interior, including an art show, a birthday party in Delta, a cabin challenge similar to the borough's trails challenge, and more. Stay tuned for the details! And lots more statewide.

One of the things that we'd love to do is to have a birthday party in Fairbanks as well. The state would provide cake, it could be somewhere like Chena Landing or another park. We're thinking early August, but nothing is set in stone about that. Other than that, it can take shape in whatever way the planners think will be fun for people.

By the way, the "we" I'm talking about is the Citizens Advisory Board of the northern region of state parks, which I am privileged to serve on.

I was wondering if FAHC would like to take this on? It would be a great way to call attention to the hiking club, and a great public service to celebrate our parks. Working with the state parks folks and their resources, it would probably take just a few people to plan, and a few more to volunteer on the day to make it happen.

Any interest? Feel free to reply with questions to me, or you can contact the superintendent of the northern region, Brooks Ludwig, at?907.451.2698 or?brooks.ludwig@....

Thanks for considering it!
Don

DescriptionMeet at the pullout on the east side of Ballaine Rd. About 3/4 mile past the top of the hill as you head north from Farmer's Loop Road. Rumor has it that there's a winter trails challenge sign at the trestle. This is an easy hike and the trails should be well packed by snow machines and dog teams so snow shoes probably won't be needed but if you have them, strapping a set to the back of your pack might prove useful. Plan on about two to three hours. After the hike we can go to Ivory Jacks for lunch. The temperature is forecast to be somewhat tropical, up in the high teens above zero! John Risser 488-6500

Hi Carol,?

?

Here’s the letter of appreciation our park director sent to the Fairbanks Hiking Club along with a photo of the sign.? A hard copy is being sent to your address.

?

Thank you for funding the sign.? I’ll make sure it gets put up once the ground thaws.? This is a? nice trailhead, accessing a state of the art trail built using best management practices.

?

The new trail is a little over 5 miles long and connects to Stiles Creek Trail near mile 8.

1-3 January Lees Cabin

Hello!

I have Lees cabin booked from 1-3 January for 2 adults and my kids. We’ve been watching the temperatures closely and might at least use it the first night.

I wanted to reach out to see if anyone is interested in coming out for a bit. I know some of you mentioned riding fat bikes or skiing out.

My only concern is my car won’t starting after 2 nights at the cabin. I’m considering leaving the keys in it (punch code) and if anybody is out there I would have you hit the auto start so it runs for 20 min.

Message or text me if you want to make plans.
