Broken down in Petoskey MI
Bernie Johnsen
We are on a road trip and one of the arms of the shifter linkage has broken on our 95 EVC. It is not the usual bushing issues and I can see the actual broken cast aluminum arm. ?Anyone have any recommendations for a vw repair shop in the Petoskey/Charlevoix area?? Also any recommendations for where we can source the shifter arm itself??? TIA Bernie 720 350 3682 |
Try EBay for the shifter arm. I looked and there are some. - Jonathan

Also I'm wondering if a T4 part would fit a Eurovan

Harbor Car Care in Harbor Springs works on my EuroVan and several other eurovans. Might be tough to get an appointment anytime soon.

Have you considered using jb weld to glue it back together and get back on the road? ? Or find a local welder to weld itOn a trip to Florida, we ran over a curb with our Eurovan pulling into a rest stop late at night. It dented the pan and cracked the cast aluminum oil pan. By dumping in an extra quart of oil every 50 miles, we got it to the VW dealer. They said it couldn't be fixed, an another one wasn't available (i.e. no help at all). So we found a a welding shop that could weld up the crack in the VW parking lot. It cost $100, but was probably cheaper than VW would have charged even if they could have done the work. That was 14 years ago, and it's still holding. :-) I imagine the same thing could be done with your shift lever. The key is to find a welder that knows what the metal actually is, and so can use the right techniques to repair it. All Eurovans are T4’s, but not all T4’s are Eurovans. Eurovan refers specifically to a North American market T4. There were numerous drive train and body configurations available in Europe that were never sold here, so it is not uncommon for a part intended for the European T4 market not to fit a Eurovan.
