Re: Motor Noise After Cooling Fans Stop on 2000 Eurovan Camper

Russ, there is a secondary water pump that is intended to cool for a period of time after a drive period.? I have no personal experience with this (can't say exactly how it works) and have not tested this, so can't speak further.? It could be that this circuit is working correctly.? You don't say your mileage-? that helps.

Mike

Motor Noise After Cooling Fans Stop on 2000 Eurovan Camper

Hello EVC group members. This is my first post after being a follower for about eight years and consequently learning more about my van.?

This week, after driving my 2000 camper about eight miles back from my nearby rural town, I turned into my street and began hearing an odd noise from the engine compartment. ?When I pulled into my garage, I turned off the engine and the fans ran normally and then shut off. Oddly, an electric pump-like motor noise continued for about five minutes. It seemed to be coming from the bottom of the radiator and there was a pulsing in the lower radiator hose. The same noise occurred a few days earlier after similar driving conditions, but stopped sooner. I just had the water pump replaced with a new GoWesty metal impeller unit and the thermostat was replaced about 5 years and 10,000 miles ago. ?Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Russ

Hi All,
My 1995 EVC was recently rear ended while parked and the hatch is a total loss.? Fortunately, the damage did not extend to the frame.? A recent post on the subject of body parts for this year vehicle has some great suggestions but no luck thus far.? I did find a 93 Eurovan parts vehicle in the region but it looks like the hatches are not interchangeable between years.? In fact, when I enter a search for the part, it seems they may have changed mid-year since one has to pick from two VIN number ranges in the "search criteria" for a 1995 EVC.? If anyone has any suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Air dam removal

I have some windshield frame rust which I need to repair on my 02 weekender

What is the best technique to remove, and then later replace the rubber air dam above the windshield?

I am used to seeing them drive a epa simulated test on the rollers

Yeah, I had the same thing in Colorado a few weeks ago.

Sparkplug Wires and Coil Pack - Free

I recently changed out my plugs, wires, and coil pack on my 2000 Eurovan. In hindsight, the old plugs and coil pack didn't need to be changed.

The plug wires are "OPParts" brand which I'm not sure I trust, but the coil pack is only 3 years and less than 10K miles old and may be perfectly functional. If anyone wants the old parts, contact me off list and they are yours for the price of postage.

Thanks, that's very interesting info. Let me run this by my mechanic next time!
I am too still frustrated that this problem can't be solved...

This is a long shot, but you'll find other occurrences documented in the archives: The serpentine belt is treated with antistatic material. As it wears it can generate enough static electricity to interfere with some of the vehicle's sensors. Think of a Van De Graaff generator making your hair stand up at the science museum. My search of the archives indicated this is more common with an aftermarket belt than a VW one.

I spent over a year chasing CEL issues, mostly random misfire indications. Then I stumbled on the belt/static issue mentioned in the archives. Changed the belt - no problems for 4 years.

The belt was visibly bad, though - lots of loose threads. Your fault codes seem like there's a bad connector or ground somewhere. Or perhaps they induced the faults while working on the harness. Maybe clear them and drive for awhile and see if they come back. Does the van drive ok, without hesitation?

Great to hear you solved your problem and with a very well put together plan of attack if I may say so. A man called Harry told me that it was better to store vehicles with the gas tank full, so that is what I do. I also give my 99EVC a good run out once a month or so - I hardly use it otherwise - to get the flat spots out of the tires and keep it limber. It is maintained by Tony at Euroquattro and serviced every 6000 miles or these days, every year, with the instruction ¡®whatever it needs, give it¡¯.
Harry has a few cars. Here is his video:?

Any Spark Plug Sherlocks out there?

Today I pulled all 6 spark plugs.

* The top row (1,3,5) look pretty good to my eye.
* The bottom row (2,4,6) look pretty bad.
* In particular, #6 is a mess - it's hard to see from the pictures but the center electrode is actually worn hollow.
* Two of them, #2 and #6, were very hard to remove, requiring a lot of torque to get out for the entire time. ?They have lots of gunk in the threads.?

This adventure started with misfires on #2 and #6. ? #2 has since cleared up, but #6 keeps misfiring.

The van idles great - the misfires only happen while under about 1/3 throttle or higher. ?

In the dark, and the van running, try misting water on the coil pack.? When mine externally misfires, you can see and hear the arcing in that area.? Also mist the plug wires.? I am talking a spray bottle with a fine mist, not a soaking.
