Prevents big terrifying sparks when you accidentally drop a metal tool on it. Maybe slows down corrosion above by redirecting noxious fumes.

Many of us remove that fuse whenever the EVC is not in use for an extended period of time to keep the coach battery from being discharged which seems to happen after about 4 to 6 weeks of non use. I
