I think it is 110 for the mv so 116 or better sounds fine. 80 is to
little.

I don't know if this is the case on your EV, but my '74 Westy receives power
from the voltage regulator and only when the main battery is charging. At
idle, I will not get any voltage across this wire. This about drove me crazy
trying to figure this out.

Try stepping on the gas a bit while you check the voltage.

The refrigerator on my 99 TDI California Coach is made by Electrolux
and works on 12V. You can hear the compresor when it?s working but
only if put great interest..(maybe I?m deaf).
I only hear it while sleeping and not always.

I?m the one who posted a rear hatch glass explosion. My VW dealer
changed it under warranty with a big smile. they told me that 4 other
glasses exploded this easter within their customers, all in
california coach vans. The reason? A batch of bad glasses, bla,
bla ,bla, no problemo amigo, everything is under control, bla bla..
They even lent me a striped down transporter while they changed the
glass.

By the way, am I the only spanish in the list? Is everybody american?
europeans? Does anybody know the URL to the westfalia werke web site?

Re: radiator fan

I am having a similar problem with my 93 ev. I suspect the thermostat is
bad. Unfortunately, that my not explain why my radiator fan does not kick
on until I turn off the engine. Sometimes the fan runs, and sometimes it
doesn't. But it whether or not it runs does not seem to be related to the
temperature of the cooling system, which has been running hot lately.

Any info would be appreciated.

Norcold - the saga continues

I previoulsy reported that on our last outing a couple
of weeks ago the breaker switch for the Norcold
refused to reset. I took it into my local authorized
Norcold repair place, Lodgemobile in Burbank for
repair. They removed the unit and kept it for a week,
everything worked fine while it was on the bench.
They reinstalled it and so far it continues to work
just fine. They guessed that a connection shorted out
in-place and that taking it out and reinstalling it
fixed the problem.

We are leaving in the morning for the Strawberry Music
festival just outside of Yosemite for the weekend, I
will let you know if the Norcold keeps the beer cold.

I did not mount the foot brackets on the van. Although I could easily do
it later, so far I see no reason to. It seems better to have them
running vertical rather than diagonal which would obstruct walking some
what around the Van.

As for the rubber rain strip. No, I didn't get that. It looks like it
would work, but may require some customising to get one to fit. There
isn't much room between the pop top and the awning. ( You do have a pop
top right? )

Make sure you check the relay. There are a number of relays behind the
driver's side headlight. One of mine was bad and the fans did not come on
when I turned the A/C on. My faulty relay was the one with the number 114 on
it. It is basically two relays in one and costs almost $60 from BusDepot. I
am not sure if #114 also turns on the fan when the temperature goes
up--maybe someone else knows. If your EV overheats on a regular basis I
would also change the thermostat.

Aux Battery

Mark Stephenson

I still have a problem charging my aux. battery. The 3 post solenoid
is OK. The small wire that goes to the center post does not get 12v
when the engine is running. I have traced it through the firewall to
a black wire with a blue stripe on a 12 pin connector on the back of
the fuse panel. The wire does not ever get 12 volts.

1. What am I missing?

2. Can the wire to the solenoid center post go to any switched 12v
connection?

Re: VW Parts CD

Michael G. McCarthy

Wow! ?This thing works! ?You download the file, decompress it using the Winimage program, and then burn a CD from the resulting directory of files. ?(I burned my CD on a Mac, even though it's a PC disk. ?Just make sure you burn an ISO disk.)

Then, you use the CD to install the program to your PC just like any other program and viola!, you have the SAME screen on your PC that the VW dealer's parts counter guy has. ?This is just too cool. ?Now you can get ALL the part numbers, and all the exploded diagrams.

True, the 1280x1024 resolution is a hassle, but you can zoom when necessary.

This works. ?No more looking for microfiche on eBay.

I belong to the vanagon group too and have downloaded this CD. BE
FOREWARNED... it requires 1280 resolution on your monitor and is in
iso format (Adaptec CDR). You can download winimage from the same
site and extract it (with winimage, once downloaded) and then burn it
to CD. I had varied success getting it to work but eventually got it
to work. It takes some tinkering with if your running NT. 95/98 ran
it ok but I did experience some problems.

It might work just fine for you and it might not and require some
tinkering time. If you download one of the FTP programs they will
resume the downloading if you get cut off while downloading. That is
the best way to go. there is little documentation supporting the use
of all the methods and programs involved in this process. You should
be fairly competent in using the PC.

I do not recomend using the iso format to burn it to CD.

I have not tried it and don't know if it works. According to the post
it is possible to download the VW parts CD for the US market. One
post claims it is 300MB and took 8 hours to download. It is all in
English.

Checking transmission fluid in V6?

My auto transmission in my 99 EVC makes a humming sound for the first 1/2
mile or so after a cold start. I suspect the fluid may be low. I have located
the filler cap on top of the transmission, but no dip stick. How is the
level checked ? Does Bentley offer any help on this? Thanks for any help.

There may have been something lose that was rattling, on your fridge. There
is also a computer type fan that sucks cold air from under the van and blows
it over the condenser coils in the fridge. On mine the fridge is no louder
than the fan, you can barely hear it inside at night.

power loss problem

Russell LaForce

I just had the catalytic converter replaced at a NAPA
muffler shop. Total cost was $276.03, time to install
was 30 minutes. Warranty is for 5 years or 50,000
miles. The original converter lost its glue and
finally fell apart. The VW dealer wanted $800 plus
1.5 hours labors. I had no choice but to look
elsewhere. It is a generic converter slightly smaller
than the original. It also took a couple of weeks to
diagnose the problem.
