Ya' wanna talk noise and resistance? My wife and I were driving the sedan
version of the EVC (Audi 4) at about 60 mph when an American Coot (Fulica
americana, not Homo sapiens) launched itself from a roadside ditch into my
driver's side mirror. Such a noise! The mirror deflected but the innards of
the mirror and the coot were everywhere.
Moral: if you visit a waterfowl refuge try to keep the speed down, or you
might have to eat a $200 coot dinner.

Chuck, it's somewhat ironic that you're associated with the Audubon Society.. ;)

We invested in a twin size feather bed for the lower bunk. It makes a huge
difference and we get great REM sleep.

Alexis,
we have some light grey/blue sheepskin covers we got at Costco for around
$40 or $50 a few years ago. they match well (enough) and are comfortable in
heat or cold.

Thanks,

I have Wet Okole covers on my 95. Black with grey inserts. Bullet proof and soft.
Warm in winter, sometimes sticky in humid (southeast) weather. Looks cool and good for you water sports guys. Variety of colors, pricey but worth it.
I think it is www.wetokole.com

were originally designed that way (to fold back) to enhance vehicle shipping
space from Europe. Handy though, if you need the space in the garage.

Re: 2000 EVC for sale (Oneonta, NY)

Right Bill. I don't believe this is unusual. EVC owners traveling from
far and wide to get service
at VW of Oneonta. I looked back at my choice of words. What I should've
said was that the service manager
acted skeptical. I didn't feel at the time nor do I now that he
genuinely was skeptical. He has good communications skills and may have
been using them to covertly say something else.

Thanks for your comments. With the rarity of the EVC in Upstate NY, any
report on this solitary dealer is appreciated.
I wouldn't think the service manager would be skeptical of your distant
travel. When I was there an elderly woman drove up from Long Island for
scheduled service rather than make use of her more local dealer. The
dealership owner also bragged about some vacationing individual who refused
service somewhere in the South for a serious problem and opted instead to
have his EVC loaded on a flatbed and trucked back to VW of Oneonta so it
could be serviced by a mechanic he trusted.

Re: More Eurovan Secrets

Caroline,
I got rid of the three tone sound by unpluging the module that was making
the sound. It is under the dash on the left side near the fuse panel. It is
long or tall and has a tiny speaker on the end of it that you can see. Just
open the door with the keys in the ignition and look, listen, and pull.

We had a similar problem with the LP alarm - at the same time, things
started going haywire with the camper electrical system, come to find out,
there was a loose ground wire in the rear panel -

I will never understand why VW chose such a crappy company (Winnebago) to
outfit such a nicely crafted vehicle

My LP alarm keeps beeping and beeping. When I reset the alarm it goes off
again after less that a minute. My coach battery is fully charged, I can
detect no LP gas leak, the LP is turned off, I've lit the stove to burn out
all LP in the lines.

Any ideas? Sure couldn't sleep in it now with all that beeping.

Chuck -
Thanks for the additional "EuroVan Secret". I will take note of this
feature on my next inspection. If they do fold, it will make a significant
difference in shoehorning an EVC into my garage. Coincidentally, my EVC
hesitant wife has been saying, "Maybe if we wait long enough before we buy
a
EuroVan, they'll upgrade to folding mirrors."
I don't believe that Gary Clendening was aware of such a feature on his
97 EVC when we did the garage fit exercise here last weekend, so I would be
interested to know if other owners have checked this out.

Re: Rear hatch glass explodes

Zaborenko, Alex, NNAD

Window glass in cars (except the windshield) are tempered. This increases
their durability tremendously and also causes them to shatter into a million
small fragments, which if you look closely, are rounded. However, there is
always some flaws in the glass unnoticeable to the eye. All it takes it
just the right pressure or vibration on this point for the glass to shatter.

I guess my ceramic engineering degree was useful for something.

Jav, I would think the rear glass is part of the body integrity and is of
high tinsel strength. I have opened and slammed the rear hatch on my 93 GL
countless times with no ill effects. But a strange thing last weekend - the
glass in the drivers side door shattered for reason. I parked in the garage
and the next morning my wife find the glass shattered. Still don't know what

caused it. Good luck to you

Re: LP gas alarm-beep-beep-beep

I would suspect the auxiliary battery. Turn the fridge on DC mode to
put a load on the battery, then check the battery charge LEDs. If it
shows low state of charge when you figure it should be fully charged,
the battery probably needs replacement. Be sure to replace it with a
deep cycle type battery. I got mine from Walmart.

Jeez, it sounds like the Princess and the Pea. We're just beginning,
though, and are considering softer foam, air mattresses, etc. Up top,>>

I bought some foam mattress covers at Wal Mart last week for $6ea. The Queen
size should be a little bigger than you need, but can be trimmed.

The foam has those little bumps in it and claims to better distribute your
weight. I used this for the first time last weekend and I have to say it was
a big improvement.

Put the foam on top of you mattress and hold it in place with a sheet. You
should be able to store the cover in the top, but for the lower bed you will
need to find a place to stow it when not in use.

Now I used these on my '74 Westfalia, but you should get similar results with
any year EV or EVC.
