Re: Wheels for 2002 camper

Chris

If anyone is still looking for wheels, I have a set of 4 original steel wheels from a 2003 EVC. They are in near-new condition. The first owner of my EVC replaced them with Alu wheels within the first 5,000 miles. They have been in storage since. They come with 15 bolts (the 16th is missing :).

They are the original steel wheels:
7Jx16 H2
ET 49

I am looking for $200 for the set.

Thanks for the good info here. But, one other thing (not mentioned) in your intervention is the fact that if an aftermarket radio is installed instead of the OEM one, it can suck 1 V to the OBDII plug causing the cable to not work correctly. That¡¯s what I found on a Forum while searching for what the default could be !!...don¡¯t know if that matters or not though. As for the cable, I find this annoying ¡®cause I was so confident that it would work, based on the feedbacks of others who have bought it. It¡¯s a KKL VAG-COM for 409.1. One thing that makes me Wonder if it¡¯s ok or not is the fact that it has a ¡®red¡¯ light that is ON when I connect it. I thought that it should have turned to ¡®green¡¯ when plugged in and working !!!

No.? When you choose from the list, that's a default of all possible modules used on that model.? Only those that are installed will return information.? The others will time out after 3 tries.? I believe on yours you'll only see 01-Engine, 02-Transmission, 03-Brakes, and 15-Airbags.? Some of the others: 08-HVAC (Climatronic), 17-InstrumentCluster, 19-Gateway (CAN-BUS), 25-Immobilizer, 35-CentralLocks (remote for doors), 56-Radio.

I made a file specific to Rialtas that only checks 01, 02, 15, 17, 19, 25, and 35 during Auto Scan since that's the most modules that any of them had, even the last ones like mine.? On early models, it only finds the ones that exist, only 01 and 02 on the 5 cylinder models.

The Lite version won't do those until you pay for a license.? If you paid the registration fee to Ross-Tech and still can't do things like adaptations, then you have a faulty cable.? You can read about them at

The speedometer cluster on 1997 Eurovan is old style, its do not even wired to diagnostic. Newer style speedometer clusters (1999 and newer Eurovan) is wired to OBD2, so those works with VCDS but not older style.?
Your 1997 EVC has only 4 modules total:?
ECM
TCM?
Air Bags?
ABS?
No other modules in that year Eurovan. So, scanning multiple times will not find more modules in your EVC.?
Hope this helps.?

If I choose 70 for the Numbers of my VIN code, as it is supposed to be, I only get these Numbers?: 01,02,03,08,15,18,22 and 25 I think. But, if I go to Ross-Tech Instructions, I¡¯m supposed to choose 7D insteadof 70 and in that case, I can have more Numbers like 01,02,,03,08,15,17,18,19,22,25,35,37 and 56. I think I would be able to address each of these last Numbers if my cable was working correctly. I¡¯m using VCDS-Lite (Registered) and it works well besides that message ¡®No Response from Controller¡¯ for most of the modules, maybe except 4 of them like 01,02,03 and 08 !!!

If you plan to always have a Windows computer with a USB port, that's probably the one to get.? Just be sure you do something on your vehicle that registers the VIN so it will be one of the 3 included, such as "register" it when directly accessing a module.

So, Duane, if I understand correctly what you are saying, my cable would be the problem ? If so, would it be preferable to upgrade my VCDS-Lite to the Hex-V2 alternative which would cost me only $ 100.00 more ¡®cause they credit the purchase of the LITE if we upgrade, or do you know the OBDeleven product ? What do you think of it ? Seems to be more intuitive but maybe cost more in terms of credits to do some specific work !!!

A real Ross-Tech cable performs flawlessly unless there are wiring/module problems.? Best Diagnostic tool to have for a 1997 EVC

Yves Desilets

Hi,

I've bought the VCDS-Lite software from Ross-Tech and I'm not very satisfied with its performances. In fact, my 'third-party' cable is correct (kkl-409.1) and is made for a VW. When starting the program, it has the correct port (#3) and can detect almost 13 modules when doing a 'Full Scan'. However, only 4 modules have got results and no other modules were detected. Also, when I'm doing a 'select' option and try to go to 'Instruments', for example, I received a message like 'No response from the controller'. I'm getting tired of this. I would like to be able to do some basic coding, adaptations and code faults. My transmission mechanic was able to 'realign and set' my throttle body and EGR valve with its Apollo D8 program. So, what's the heck ? Is it that the VCDS-Lite software is locked on certain actions ? What other product could I have to diagnose my '97EVC wihtout having to break the bank ? Thanks.

Re: Replace AC/Heater control module

Hi Rhodney - I just did this same repair on my 1999 EVC. Here is a link to the overseas source.? Assuming they are still good, you'll need to reuse the upper (aft heater) white piece and the lower (AC controls) part. But it is very doable as they are attached to the main body with screws.? The replacement part is not of the same quality of the original, but at should last for the life of my vehicle.?
Let me know if you need any info.? After years of repairing the cracked plastic, I was happy to find a source for a new unit.?

In the first picture, where the line is that has that small, green cap.? There's supposed to be a vacuum hose connected to that.

Also,? in the event you don't know, you've got the wrong coolant in your system.??

Re: Replace AC/Heater control module

I had one cable break free from the flimsy housing on the back, and after dissasembly and removing the unit i decided to just pull that cable out from behind the dash to use it. Looks like an old-school choke now, but easier than finding replacement?and reinstalling what looks like a weak part. The tab that those cables live in is pretty small and under a lot of pressure. Folks advised to not switch the direction of air flow while the fan is on...makes it easier on the housing. Just my .02

And to the Group a request for a good youtube link for reinstalling this control unit. I got it out easily because two of the cables were broken loose from the unit (which was the original problem) but reattaching cables and getting unit back in place seems challenging. Again Thanks for any help on this. Rhodney

Re: Replace AC/Heater control module

Thanks Sam... I did Google by part number of course and VW Parts Vortex website indicated they had this part. I called them 888-667-8938 (the number is actually Burlington VW) and they said the part was no longer available. Did you find this part some time ago. Another source said they think VW quit making this in 2019.
Again thanks for the reply. Rhodney
