Re: Nokian Entyre 2.0 Availability

mma2

Sorry to have been away from my PC for a few days.??

Joe,
Thanks for the feedback.? I must have gotten a clearance price deal from Walmart.com.? Checked with Nokian and they still maintain that the Entyre 2.0 is "available."? Maybe production runs were affected by Covid?

Michael,
If it helps, I've been running the Entyre 2.0's at 46 psi.? Seems to give a good ride with the EVC loaded with our gear but with the water reservoir empty.? The stated max is 51 psi for these tires.

Best Wishes to all,

Rick

Re: EVC Solar Power 2021

I am impressed with the C60 efficiency or better, disappointed with my Snowmaster's efficiency.? ?It really needs the 200 watts of panel to keep going day after day in hot areas.? But I will add that the model I have has two full separate temp compartments.? One or both compartment can be set as freezer or fridge or one of each.? ?So that's a bit more refrigeration work getting done.

I do have the Cyrix Li-charge.? After several years of using it, I'm not sure how much I like it.? Reason is that it's supposed to intelligently sense the voltage coming in for a lithium to trigger the relay but the factory settings don't seem to work right. I can't remember what it is- been quite a while since I used the van.? Soon....? In the end, I rely on the trigger control of the Li-Charge by using the relay function on the BMV.? That is rock solid and I can set it from the bluetooth app as I like.? There are many options there.? ?Sometimes I go in and turn it off manually as well.

I've looked into others, especially the ones that Battleborn carries and don't like how they work either.? ?So the Li-charge is the best option so far, but not as good as it could be.?

The MPPT will not work to charge from you alternator.? They need to see the much higher voltage of a solar input than the alternator will put out.? That's my understanding.??

The MPPT is, however the best way to manage your loads and protect drainage.? I use the load output to power everything except the inverter.

Steve, thanks for the compliments!

1. Solar (and Refrigerator) performance is highly dependent on location - I've found the 85W solar panel was enough to run my Vitrifrigo C60 indefinitely, as long as I'm parking at altitude in the Sierra Nevadas in the summer (e.g. not too hot, tons of sunlight).?

2. I see from pictures you have the Cyrix-Li-Charge. ? Do you like it? ?I'm still trying to figure out how to handle my starting battery. ? ?The MPPT 100/20 has a load output (which I thought I could program as a battery charger) but I'm having troubles with that and am discussing on the Victron forums.

I've rewired the Eurovan so almost everything is on the House battery, and I rarely take trips longer than 3-5 days, so it may not matter much.

Flexible panels underperform the glass with the same rating and the plastic is not very durable.? But convenient.? I like how you have both options for roof or removable.? EVC Solar Power 2021

More Eurovan Power - in addition to a LiFePO4 house battery installed last year, I've now added:
* A second removable solar panel (SunPower 110W) with custom aluminum slide-in mount
* Victron BMV-712 (battery monitor)
* Victron IP-22 (battery charger)
* Victron SmartSolar (MPPT solar charge controller)

It's all documented in the newest updates on my website:

I'm happy to answer questions or provide more info here on the list.

Enjoy!

Rick: I've been running Nokian WR-C which I think are a slightly more aggressive all weather tire compared to the Entyres, and have been quite happy with them. ?I wonder if they are still available in 225/60-16 ?

Joe: what pressure are you running them at? ?I, too, have a 2000 EVC which came stock with 15" wheels but was upgraded to the 16" wheels, and I'm never quite sure what pressure is best. ? I tend to do about 48 psi all around which seems a decent compromise of stiffness vs. ride. ??

One related question. I purchased a set of the 5 spoke 16" EV wheels I bought with some snow tires recently which are 16X7. I wish the installer would have pointed this out. The tire "bows out" a tad from the wheel. Re: 2000 Eurovan PCV/breather options #evcrepair

Thanks. At the moment 700 miles without a code would be significant progress. I'll post pics when I get the part and do the install later this week.?

Another alternative I found:?

^^This one is adjustable, but as you mentioned earlier, the difference between these calibrations probably won't make a huge difference.?

I did some checking after your previous post and the PCV you chose was the one that I thought would be worth a try so I am hoping for the best.
As far as the vacuum hose, I just terminated it. If I remember correctly the hose ran to a tee and I replaced the tee with a straight through connector. Thus removing the tee and hose.
When I did mine I did it on the premise of "this should work" so being in a extreme rush I did not document my modification thinking I would do it later... if it worked.
Well 7 months later we are still in Covid lock down here and my R is still 500 miles away.
So would you please document your mod with pictures and post them.

I think the proper way to wear in brakes is? ? ? ?Good cross hatch, ? Than soft breaking for first miles. ? ?Not hard breaking and getting hot.? ?I would machine rotors or new.

For those who wondered, a 97 EVC with ABS does have a proportioning valve on the rear axle, and depressing that lever while pressure bleeding the rear brakes seemed to be part of the solution, coupled with bleeding 2cups of fluid at each rotor. The shop that did the work still asserts that wearing in the pads with aggressive braking to get them hot contributed to solving the issue, but I'm not impressed. There's a slight feeling of pulsing or vibration that makes me think they may have warped a rotor(or2) in the process of doing this :-/ Never a dull moment! Best wishes for us all and safe travels.

Re: 2000 Eurovan PCV/breather options #evcrepair

I couldn't figure out how to disassemble the existing PCV in a way that would make it usable again, so I decided to go with . My thinking is that it's probably pretty close to the 2000 Eurovan calibration since it's for a 2.8L VR6. Only thing that worries me a bit is that it does not use a vacuum?hose whereas the existing valve does.?

@gundylake Thanks for the helpful sketch. To your question, I believe?that the valve ordered is spring operated. The existing valve does not have a spring. I think the way it works is that the vacuum?line keep the rubber diaphragm?sucked back in place and until?the engine pressure is great enough to overcome the vacuum. Have you had any issues so far with your solution?

Will let you know how it goes.?

Looking at the Jetta PVC valve that you posted it does not appear to have a vacuum port. So does it have a ball or a diaphram/spring valve? If it has a diaphram/spring type valve and it does not rely on gravity to close the valve so you could just install it directly into the side of the valve cover and connect it to #12 of Jonathon's diagram?and plug the vacuum hose.?
It never occurred to me to use a diaphram/spring PVC valve when I was doing it. I think it would have been easier to use a valve with a spring.
My understanding of the PVC valve is that the valve portion is there to prevent a fire in the crankcase in the event of a backfire.
Do fuel injected engines backfire like the carbureted engines did?

Nokian Entyre 2.0 Availability

Richard Hom

Had an interesting experience looking for these tires in size 225/60 with a load rating of 102.? Nokian lists them on their website and listed several dealers in my local area (Sacramento, CA).? Called all of them and none could recall selling any Nokian tires in the past year or so.? Moreover, all said that they could not get this model from Nokian and a couple speculated that this tire model was discontinued.? Nokian itself indicates that the Entyre 2.0 is still available.

Well, if anyone is interested in a set of these tires in the above size, they are in stock at Walmart.com and I bought and picked up a set of four from my local Walmart this past week.? Also, they are currently on sale for $60/tire.??

YMMV
