Re: Samba / stubborn, can't find anything

Can you provide a specific example of a search term that returns nothing?

I find that if I search on the term 'relay' in the search field on the right, I get 21,300 results.
If I search on 'relay' in the search field on the left, I get 53 results.
If I check the 'Title only' box and use the search field on the left I get 7 results.

I've gotten very used to this forum, can find most anything I want. I
see Samba has a Eurovan group - with 30+ postings on a thread about
mostly nothing. Seems like "a social media".

Being dense, I can't figure out the Samba searching techniques. No
matter what I type in, nothing returns. With a lack of insight how how
to find anything, Samba offers me little.

First and foremost, Get the codes read at your local auto parts store. That will indicate what the problem is.

Re: Heater Flaps

The Files section has 2 pages of dashboard removal instruction.
The author recommend drilling 2 bolts and I agree.? That's much easier than pulling the steering wheel.
? Then, I watched a youTube video, ? that continued where the Files left off.
Drain a quart of anti-freeze. 2 bolts and 2 hoses[+vacuum] for heater.
?Do not let Freon out, but remove 2 bolts.? 2 or 3 Allen heads for air inlet.
?? When the assembly is free, pop off 6 clips and only 2 vacuum lines.
???? The rest of the v. lines can take the controller along as you extract the heater-box, but the blue, cable, heat adjuster needs to be unhooked from the controller.
???

Sounds so simple. What was involved in getting to the heater? Was the dashboard already out or is that not required?

I re-foamed my heater today.? First, the intake is forced by the fan thru the evaporator.
???????????????????????????????????????? Then the air can be diverted around the heater core[if the flaps are foamed].? If the foam has crmbled, it can pick up heat.
? Lastly, the air can be directed up or down. another flap will do that, more or less if the foam is good.

While it was spitting out the foam, there was some force, but gradually the force lessened until now. I have enough air blowing out the cool the car ( just finished a 2000-mile trip from MD to FL and back). I don't know the normal air route but it's going somewhere.?

Thanks.?

Since your fan is running, we'd assume the air is going somewhere besides the vents.
I saw a poor foam-seal at the top of the heater.

JB,

What year and model EV? Please let us know how the replacement went. I have a 2001 Weekender that has spit out all its foam, the end result being that despite a good fan speed, little air gets pushed out of the vents (the vents are clear of foam). Hence I need to do something.

Re: Samba / stubborn, can't find anything

Samba just split the Vanagon/Eurovan forum into two separate forums after years of arguing about doing it.

That might have something to do with searches on the newly created Eurovan forum.?

I have been impressed with how much good information the Samba has had over the years, but the EV has always been viewed as a stepchild on the Vanagon forum until this split. Hopefully with a dedicated forum for EV owners this site will reach it's full potential for the EV folks.?

Re: Where is , and how do I replace the "fan resistor pack " ???

I had similar issues on my 93. At first I lost low speeds - a sure sign the resistor pack is blown. High speed worked intermittently. ?I replaced the fan and resistor pack and low speeds worked but high speed only occasionally worked. I replaced the AC relay, I think it was #140, and the blower has been working perfectly since then. I am guessing the root source of the problem was the fan. As it started wearing out it sucked up more current which ended up burning out the resistor pack and relay. Since you are saying it does not blow like it used to, the fan may be on its way out.

?If I just replaced the resistor pack I'm sure the new one would have burned out shortly - but might be worth trying since it is not too expensive and is a lot easier than pulling the dash to replace the fan.

The link provided above shows the assembly for a non-AC system. On my van the resistor pack was mounted to the metal bar that runs through the dashboard above and to the left of the blower.

Also could be the switch itself is not working correctly or there might be a bad ground.

Re: Changing differential gear oil

I have 2001 EVC and changed the gear oil in final drive when had my transmission pulled out. I think it might be difficult to get to fill/drain plugs when transmission is in. Try to look around transmission pendulum support arm that holds transmission from the bottom and see if you can get to these plugs.

Rear bed

The latch that allows the lower bed to slide back and ?forth is not working and bent. Does anyone know where to get a new handle??

Thanks

Check engine light

My check engine light comes on when I first start my car and says on until I turn the car off. If I then turn the car on the light says off for the rest of the day. Any suggestions on what is going on? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Really hard to find tires for '01 EV MV WK!

Hey - I notice you pull a bambi. I am currently wiring up my 2002 EV to tow a 17 foot ultra light trailer (a safari condo alto 1743), with trailer brakes. Curious if you know how your 7 blade is wired into the brake system? I have a tekonsha RF on order to take car of the brake control.

Re: Sound deadening

Unsure if you meant the metal pan or the foam liner. If its the foam liner, get yourself an old mattress and rip it apart.

Which group size fits with the swivel? The stock battery is too tall.

VW has them for about $100. Sears international battery is also good.

House battery for driver's seat with swivel?

I've been trying to search this group for the best option for a house battery for a Eurovan with a driver's side seat swivel. The search is proving futile so I'll just ask.

What wave people found to be the best solution? (2003 Weekender)

Thanks

Sound deadening

Has anyone in the group replaced the sound deadening in the lower body pan in a late model Eurovan?

I see a listing in VW dealer parts for a replacement- but it doesn't offer a picture or much info.

Mice have wrecked mine- and I am thinking either of getting an OEM replacement or just winging it with off-the-shelf replacement pads/panels/etc.

Amy comments appreciated.
