I totally concur with Sue. The southern part of the state is a
beautiful area, plus if is far less populated than the northern part.

Re: Disabling EVC Running Lights

John Waterman

Toby,
Once having located the wires it would be a very simple matter to
install a switch to toggle between functions.
I do not view the headlights being on as being a safety feature, on the
contrary they frequently result in the vehicle being driven at night w/o
tail lights because the driver does not have the visual indication of
not having headlights on.

Remember when you disable your running lights you are not using an

been suprised by a car, and wonder where it came from? Just watch for
a while and see which cars you notice further in the distance, even
when paying special attention if is the one with their lights going.

I realize the eurovan is big and white, but extra safety never hurts
when you are approaching a tired driver or drunk.

If you would like to turn them off for in campground use, is it
possible to install a switch in the connection so you could have then
allways ready when on the road? Just a thought.

X-Country Move

Terry Tiessen

Let's hear it for parking lots and for rest areas on the Interstates where
overnighting is allowed. On our trip to Utah and Colorado this summer, we
spent some of our most pleasant nights in Rest Areas. This did not include
Colorado, however, which is quite paranoid about it.

Have a good trip.

Cheers,

This may sound like a strange suggestion, but I offer it just
in case it
comes in handy. There was a short, front-page article in the
Wall Street
Journal recently about how some Wal-Mart stores are staying
open all night,
partly to cater to campers. They have large, empty parking
lots and they
are stocked with supplies people need while travelling. So
campers started
using them in a pinch as overnight rest and restock stations.
At some,
there will be a small population of travellers in their
camping vehicles in
the parking lot, socializing and comparing notes. The
article said that
Wal-Mart now sells a special road atlas with an insert that shows the
location of all Wal-Mart stores that offer their parking lot
for overnight
stays. But they don't have electrical hookups.

You might keep this in mind in case you have trouble finding
a place to stay
some night.

Another few questions on my soon to be 93 MV weekender:

1. Do all the weekenders have an airbag?
Mine has none. It does have ABS.

2. What was the new price of this vehicle?
23-24K as i recall ??

3. How can this van NOT have tilt wheel?
I haven't missed it.

4. How good will OEM stereo sound?
It is OK, but not remarkable. In any case, it is a pretty noisy vehicle,
so audiophile cruising is not easily attainable...

5. What does an exhaust cost?
dunno

MORE IMPORTANTLY

WHAT should I look for on inspection? I plan to drive it till it's good
and hot - to see how it behaves and see what might drip when parked??
I have 60k+ and no real problems except for all the fussy (and infuriating)
VW stuff... Speedo wacko, slide window latches falling off, etc.
Mechanically no problems to date.

Congrats,
Antonio

hello,
I just bought a cd changer for my 93 MV, but no one at the vw
dealership had any idea where it was supposed to be mounted. I haven't
been able to locate a eurovan with a cd player installed at any of the
local dealerships, so, anyone know?

Thanks,

Zaborenko, Alex, NNAD

AAA sells a guide thats lists pet friendly hotels around the country. They
also have campground guidebooks which tell you whether a campground allows
pets or not. As far as Wal-Mart, you can go on the web and ask for
locations along you route and it will give all the addresses.

We're moving from the San Francisco Bay Area in CA to the Eastern Shore of
Virginia (Floyd just passed over there, hope our new house doesn't have any
new trees sticking through it!)
We are driving away next Saturday in our 97 EVC with a 100lb pooch, three
cats, and a twelve foot long trailer. We are planning on keeping the cats
in travel cages (they HATE the car) with 'relaxation tablets' provided by
our sympathetic vet.

We're planning on travelling I 80 most of the way across, staying at
campgrounds near the interstate, and occasional hotels/motels that allow
pets.

Does anyone have any hints or tips on the route, pet friendly camping spots
and hotels, keeping cats happy and healthy (watering, litterboxes, etc).

This will be our longest trip in the EVC to date, and I think it'll be a
challenging one with all the critters. I can't wait to take an actual
pleasure cruise!

Appreciate your thoughts!

Re: Planning a trip to CO

Hello,
My wife and I just took a nice trip around Colorado and visited some
areas we haven't seen before. If you get up to the NW corner of the
state, Dinosaur Nat'l Monument is spectacular and very uncrowded. The
best Aspen viewing is on Kebler Pass, a dirt road between Crested Butte
and the Paonia Reservoir area. The road is very good and there are
some great camping spots along the way (a short side road to Lost Lake)
State road 92 between the Blue Mesa reservoir and Cedaredge is not
crowded and has spectacular vistas of the Black Canyon near the east
edge, and you can visit the Black Canyon from a turnoff just east of
Cedaredge. You are picking my favorite time to tour around Colorado.

Re: Planning a trip to CO

Vance, Beaumont W.

Oh you New England Snobs!

Ok, let me rephrase that. The snow capped mountains, blue skies and green
trees are there year round. In the fall Spots of gold are added to the color
scheme. It is breathtaking year round and marginally more breathtaking for a
week in the fall. Just don't expect multiple colors like you get in the
east.

But Sue is right about at least one thing ;-) soaking in the hot springs
when it is about 25 degrees out side is AWESOME. And some of those springs
are clothing optional (Woo Hoo!)

I agree about Telluride and Uray, etc. There are very few people out there
compared to the front range. That is the best part of Colorado.

Now now Beaumont, lets not let those eastern biases show through! Hey I'm a
transplant from New England where we laughed at folks who came from where
Beaumont was in NY! Terrible foliage snobs, we are.....but all in good fun
:>)

I will say, however, that the deep blue Colorado sky against the amazing
mountains which will have snow for at least part of your trip I'm sure Alex,

speckled with green conifers and golden Aspens will no doubt take your
breath
away. If it were me I would spend my whole time in the area mentioned a few
posts ago (by I can't remember who already). If you were to base your trip
around his route (Durango, Silverton, Ouray, etc,) I think it will be
amazing!

Some things in that area that are quite fun are: Ouray and or Orvis hot
springs, Narrow gage railroad from Durango to Silverton. Driving all those
passes and just gawking at the mountains, mountain biking on the jeep roads
(or jeeping it if your prefer). Eating at Bien Tiempo in Ouray. I bet Mesa
Verde would be nice around now too. Todd needs to now join in with the real
info on where to eat and drink, etc (and I will print his message for future

reference.)

Have a great time!

Sue

Foliage change? Bwaaaaaaaa haaaa haaaaaaaaaa Snort, snort haaaaaaaa haaaa
haaaaaaa

I am from New York where fall is like two paint delivery trucks colliding.

Out here most everything is an conifer. The only deciduous trees are the
aspens. They turn goldish. SO it is a sea of green with a few gold islands.
Pretty, yes. But nothing like the falls on the east coast.
