Hi, We had the same window closing difficulty. On the same day I brought in mine, another '97 was there for the same difficulty. Thompson VW in Waterville replace the sensor mechanism and it worked

Steve, I had the same problem with my driver's side window. My dealer tried to reset the electronics but wound up replacing the entire mechanism in the door, under warranty, which solved the problem.
