Re: Timing Belt

Michael G. McCarthy

The tensioner pulley is called a roller, part number 044-145-278-A (list $70)
The v-belt for an EV with A/C is part number 074-260-849-J (list $54.95).

You have to get the timing belt correct to the tooth. ?The computer cannot compensate for the physical relationship between the crank and the cam.

I have to bite the bullet soon and replace my timing belt. Since several members of this list experienced noisy belt tensioner pullies, I have been thinking about replacing mine just in case. Does anyone have the VW# for that part. Knowing the number makes ordering and price comparison much easier.
????Any tips for the timing belt and water pump change? Do I have to have the timing set after I change the belt or does the computer adjust itself?
Thanks
Eckhard
