compounds that purportedly give the 51 it's excellent grip on slippery
roads.
The point being Is it simplistic to think " well the 51 is good, the 61
must be better "

Truly EAB, the simplicity reads easily. If in fact Agilis 51 is good, the
Agilis 61 is much better (to include the fact that the preferable tire size
is found in the 61 series ... 215/70 R15C Agilis 61)
To wit Michelin's own development reflection on the 61 series Agilis tire:
"The Michelin 61, 81, 101 and 106 replace the Michelin XC 4S and the XCA (PR
6, 8 and 10). The new tires are aimed at vehicles transporting heavy loads in
conditions that may become difficult.
?€? Michelin Agilis 61 for light vans (up to 3.5 tons GVW),
?€? Michelin Agilis 81 for medium-sized and heavy vans (up to 7.5 tons GVW),
?€? Michelin Agilis 101 and 106 for heavy vans (up to 7.5 tons GVW).
In designing these four tires, Michelin placed particular emphasis on
solidity and resistance to all types of friction, rasping and shock.
?€? shock-resistance is improved through an increase in the density of the
cords making up the casing ply: up to 18% more than in the previous generation
?€? the thickness of the sidewalls has been increased to 4mm. The sidewalls are
shielded by a double protection band. Even if the protective molding is worn
down, the Michelin Agilis 61, 81, 101 and 106 still offer a service life
equal to that of the previous generation of tires.
->The casing design has been optimized to increase the tread area in contact
with the road; the difference is around 12% compared with tires of the same
dimensions from the previous generation. In addition, the tread depth has
been increased by 1mm to increase the service life of the tires......... "
errrrr.........by chance EAB, are you running the 51's? ~????

Mr. swlink
The A 61 may in fact be a better tire then the A 51. Unfortunately your
argument doesn't give me any reason to think so.
Consider , " If the 51 is good, then the 61 is much better " the form of
this pair of statements is flawed and reads like this argument. If the
51 is X, than the 61 is X+Y. For what if it were shown that the 51 is
not X? According to this reasoning the 61 could not be X+Y. But how
could that be true? If the 51 were not X , surly the 61 would still be
the 61 and not anything less then X+Y. One is not effected by the other.
Furthermore this argument has no basis at all. Where in the the text
you've copied or any text anywhere does it say that the 61 is better
than the 51? Michelin compares it to older lines such as XC 4S etc...
and says that it's improved ( I have good faith that it is improved, but
have you ever known a tire company to promote sales of a new product by
saying " well, it not as good as the older ones but we thought we'd make
it anyway ).
Next: Your statement that 215/70 R15C is a preferable tire size is
trivial in this respect. It is subjective. That is to say that it tells
us only about what the writer thinks and could be read like this
statement. " swlink likes tires that are 215/70 R15 " This statement is
presumably true but meaningless.
If this is not so, if this an objective statement that tells us about
some truths concerning EVs and tire size. Than those truths would have
to exist. If they exist, then where are they? Where does it say and by
who's authority that 215/70 R15 is preferable to all other tire sizes on
all EVs for all drivers on all roads on all conditions? Since you don't
qualify your statement I'm left to this generalization. please reply.
To answer your question, yes I have the 51s. I didn't chose them those,
they were stock on my 99 EVC.
So I drive them by default. I do like them though and have remarked
previously to that effect.
Look forward to hearing from you soon and I apologize for my lack of
emoticons, I just can't get the hang of those things.
