battery for this application is the Optima D900M (Deep Cycle Marine) Battery. It has sealed spiral cells that allow it to be mounted on it's side or even upside down with no risk of leaking. It also has 2 sets of terminals that make it much easier to add the growing amount of connections for radio, converters, etc. without having to pull the existing connectors off. It runs about $150, but it will outlast any other battery by a long shot. I went through the same process myself six months ago and found that all the other "true" depp-cycle batteries were too big for the space available under the driver's seat. The Optima, due to it's sealed construction, mounts perfectly on it's side (top facing toward the front) and I was able to use the existing mounting brackets that VW used for the old battery. If you want to learn what makes this battery so incredibly different from the others, visit the Optima site at . If you decide to buy one, I'd be happy to walk you through the process of installation and securing it with the existing mounting brackets. There's no drilling or cutting and it fits perfectly in minutes. Good luck! Scott Bramwell 93 MVWK Colorado Springs stb@... -----Original Message-----
