Thank
you for the good information. I think, after reading your message and the
others before, that going with a new 1000W transformer is the best bet. My
frustration comes from not having a manual to read through. The larger Eurovan
manual put out by Winnebago says very little.
?
I
think its time to buy a better manual.
?
SO,
where in Germany are you hanging out?
?
Servus,
(that should give a you a clue about my general
whereabouts)

?
1.?
Large vs small transformer:? I second the notion that you would be
wise
to
err on the side of a too large transformer than a too small one.?
I
personally don't want to be worrying all the time about
exceeding the
capacity of the transformer and having a
meltdown.? If you decide to add up
all of the power drain
from the various things you're going to use in the
camper you
should figure in a bit extra for overhead that you might not
be
aware of.? Does the charging circuitry use power??
What is the draw from the
furnace when it is operating (including
the fan and other electrical items
in the furnace)?? Also, I
don't think it's a good idea to use a 300 watt
transformer to run
300 watts of power drain.? I think the transformers put
out
less than they are rated for.? (I think that's the .6 that was
mentioned
below.)
2.? New vs. used
transformer:? I have a '99 EVC and I live in Germany.?
I
bought a used 750 watt transformer from the thrift shop and on
the second
outing last year it started to make a loud noise.?
I stopped using it
immediately.? I've decided to invest in a
new one.? My thinking goes like
this- I just spent $35,000 on
this wonderful camper with all of it's
intricate electrical
charging circuitry.? Why am I quibbling over $100 to
insure
that I don't cause an electrical problem.? I think that if
I
inadvertantly mess up the electric system in the van, I'll have
to pay the
local Winnebago people alot more than $100 to fix
it.? On the other hand,
perhaps you can find a transformer in
like-new condition from someone you
trust.
So my
opinion is not to skimp on a relatively inexpensive item that
you'll
be using pretty regularly, whenever you plug in at a
campground.
