I got mine from MobilityRV. They are called gas springs.
is their web site; you order by phone,
number is on the web site. Service was excellent. They seem to be
able to get anything that is available as a replacement part for the
Winnebago part of the
EVC. I only replaced one; the new ones are pretty powerful; kept the
second one as a spare.

Camper World only has the longer ones. Any help would be

Hi Bill - Yes, the "Pickle" ('93 EV MV

an excellent deal on a '99 Eurovan MV!
While it's nice, in many ways I like the '93
better and will be sad when it's sold. . . lots

anyone who might be interested, please let
them know. It's in excellent condition.

I just got back from a trip to Singapore, Boy was that a long drive
:) But I did bring the normal electrical devices with me. And I did
not need any transformers. See if you can look at the name plates on
any electrical devices you will be using, most of them will say
"110/200 volts" Do the same for the battery charger thing in the
camper. Now that might be a good idea, Just find a 220 volt battery
charger thing if its necessary. You might not need the transformer,
just some adaptors.

Caroline,
The fridge uses 140 W on AC and I don't think the converter uses more
than that. If you aren't planning on using 110 V appliances in the
camper, a 300 W transformer should do it. You can always run the
fridge on propane if you need the transformer capacity for something
else.
If you buy a transformer from the second hand store, you can probably
sell it for about what you pay for it when your tour is over.

I would be able to look it up in my manuel but that is destroyed by
water.
Still need to get that.

2 cents here,

Having lived over in England (while in the AF) a few years ago, I
found the weight difference between the different converters to be
minor. The smallest one is still very heavy, the higher capacity
converters are about the same weight.

That being the case, buy the highest capacity model you can
find/afford. When you don't use it on the trip you can use it at
home.

Hi Rick,

Thanks for the answer

Yes, I understand that I need to convert from 220 to 110 Volts,
but
the
transformers come in different Watts. So, I need to buy one that
converts
the correct amount of Watts into 110 Volts(I hope that makes
sense
to me!!)

On a side note, with the move over here I have had to make choices
about
which electrical appliances to keep and buy transformers for and
which to
sell and buy German models. With the dollar at peak performance
its
been
easier to buy German models. Obiviuosly that's not the case
with the
Eurovan. My parents shipped it over for me in exchange for my
Chevy
Blazer.
Since I want to travel its perfect for me I am a no-frills
traveler.

The second hand store on base sells transformers for 750 and 1000
Watts, I
think if they are cheap and work that will be my best bet.

Thanks again,

Caroline

Look at what the rear panel is rated for (in Amps) then convert to
Watts,
using W =VA. (actually there may be a 0.6 factor there as well to
properly
convert VAC, maybe someone can help out here.?)

Presumably you understand that the transformer converts Voltage,
and you're
just looking for one rated to the
amount of power you're going to run through it?
My Van was shipped over from the states to Germany I will need to
buy a
transformer to be able to supply power to the van on longer trips.
I have
been having a bear of a time figuring out the size (watts)
transformer I
need to buy. The Px sells them in 50,300,750 and 1000.

Nope. Canada gets the same proven, six-sigma EVC components and
installation that the US does. It is the same vehicle in 97-99
(sorry
-no idea whether any of the components in the rialta are the same)
The Difference: The Canadian one DID swivel clockwise, and it was so
much easier to use. I have to admire those of you who swivel it
around often (and back) that 250 degree arc rather than the easy 110
degree arc that it could be clockwise.

What we do know is that the only reason the drivers side seat in the
EVC only rotates to counterclockwise (not the way you would want them
to) is something about the way the pin that engages the ignition
lockout rides on the circumference of a circular metal guide with a
notch.

The question is: Has anyone just modified that metal guide slightly
by
rounding off that 3/16" point that obstructs the pin going clockwise?

Anyone have a good reason not to do that? I am not talking about
messing with the lockout at all, only the guide that may have been
modified in the 98 that I rented that DID rotate (easily) clockwise
and it was a great way to have it?

Under the seat, it looks like the slot for that springed pin is
ground
off only on one side (toward anticlockwise) and only about 3/16"
SO
unless there is a safety issue, 360-degree nirvana may await if we
grind off that same amount on the other side. Anybody do this?
Anybody not have to and still swivel 360 degrees? Or have I
missed
something.

The bench grinder seems reasonable, but we are still under
warranty,
so I'm torn. Why would one defeat this in the US and not in
Canada?

Influencial lobbyists perhaps? But which lobbyists . . .?

Subject: Re: EVC seats don't swivel clockwise, unless . . .

As one of Volkwagen's customer that uses a wheelchair for my mobility
needs, I purchased a 1999 Eurovan last November. From my experience
with the Vanagon generation, I had a power swivel seat installed in
my Vanagon. Over the years it was a headache because wires would
break, cluthes would wear out, connectors would loosen, gear teeth
would break, ...

So in my new Eurovan I wanted a swivel seat that was less
maintenance,
so I installed the swivel from the Eurovan camper version. The
swivel
IS made by Volkswagen in Germany. Model years 1993-1997 did swivel
bi-directional. 1998 Volkswagen made a new flange under the swivel
that force the swivel to rotate counter clockwise only. This was due
to the emergency brake lever near the seat base. To make the swivel
rotate bi-directional, I got a Dremel power tool with a grinding
wheel
on it and made the flange symmetrical. If you look under the swivel
base, you will see how a ball-bearing wheel guides itself along the
flange. It took me about 30 minutes to grind by hand. There is also a
stop plate that Volkswagen welded to the base, you may need to grind
this piece off, for my needs, I didn't need to grind it off.

It took me about a hour to grind the flange down, remove the standard
seat base from the van, remove and reinstall seat on the swivel base
and mount complete swivel seat in the van.

It would be rare to find a swivel from Volkswagen that rotates
bi-directional since the mono-swivel base supersedes all other
bi-directional swivel bases.

Whether you grind this flange down or not, I don't think it will void
your warranty on the vehicle.

Feel free to email if you have any further questions.

Floyd Truskot

I think is was std on 99, it was std on 00 (I just got 00). Not too
important, more like a cheap piece of plastic. I added wing nuts to hold
mine on a little longer. Not worth replacing if lost.

looks better with that stuff covered up. Also, with
the cover in place, the propane valve isn't as

On my way out of the campground today I saw what
looked like a 2000 EVC with CA dealer plates from

Tennis balls can be hard to use when every inch counts. Like Bill, I have
*no* room to spare, so I used a scrap 2x2 and attached it to the garage
floor with Liquid Nails (comes in a caulking tube, available at fine stores
everywhere). Now I fold in the mirror, watch the side-wall and let the 2x2
let me know when I'm all the way in. Again, like Bill, if I gain any weight
the workbench is doomed.
I've tried tennis balls, and this is better. And I've learned to avoid
the 2x2 when the EVC is not in the garage.
