Re: Bras or Front End Masks

I've had 2 VW OEM bras, including one for my 97 EVC, and each time I've
gotten minor but visible scratching in the clearcoat along the edge of
the bra from the wheel well up to the hood, despite cleaning and waxing
the van regularly, cleaning the bra regularly, and otherwise following
the instructions. I didn't think I'd notice it as much on the EVC's
"Arctic White" paint, but I do, and I don't like it. Maybe this
doesn't happen with the other brands mentioned. Based on these
results, I wouldn't recommend the VW OEM product, which probably costs
more than the alternatives anyway.

I've used bras on other cars that I've owned and have not had any
problems
with either scratching or paint discoloration. But someone recently
suggested
3M's clear spray on mask. They said that the protection was superior
to a
traditional bra because it covers all of the front end instead of
just a
limited area. The main drawback is that it is about twice the cost of
a bra!

Any thoughts?
