I found making a list (per activity, going camping + fishing, or
biking...) and refining it as you go over time alows you to not have to
remember all of lessons over again. Just print it out and check them
off. Then take the list with you. Add items if you discover on this
trip you should have brought X. Don't forget to update the list when
you return.
I also pack items in medium/large plastic containers and store them on
a shelf in the garage. When its time to go, I grab containers X, Y, Z
... depending on how long the trip is/what we're going to do.
Wow, that's a lot to type for 2 cents...

Rich,
We also keep our EVC permanently stocked with bed linens, silverware &
utensils, cookware, plates and cups, and basic staple food supplies.
That
makes packing for a trip much easier.

Jim-
Congratulations on you new purchase. Richard Cochran's website
includes some nice ideas on how to "fine tune" your new evc, if
you
are
so inclined. In addition, he has a list of supplies, etc. he
takes
when camping: .
Of
course, every owner's camping list will be unique, but this
should get
you started.
I was going to mention this, but you beat me to it. Oh well. I'll
point out that my checklist is mostly procedural, that is, things
to DO, not so much things to PACK.
As far as things to bring, I find it easiest just to store almost
everything (kitchen stuff, bed sheets, pillows, flashlights with
batteries, candle lanterns, lighters, first aid kit, etc.) in the
van permanently, so it's always ready to go. My camp kitchen is
mostly small lightweight stuff designed for backpacking or car
camping. Before a trip, all I need to pack is clothes and food,
plus an optional guitar, telescope, camera, etc.
If you borrow kitchen gear piecemeal from your home kitchen, you'll
want to make a packing list and revise it after every trip until
you get it right.
