Re: Sound System Upgade

Larry Schellhase

I took my 99 EVC to Al and Eds and told them I wanted
to replace the Panasonic system with a quality in dash
AM/FM CD player and better speakers. Al and Eds carry
several brands including Alpine and I did not give
them a price limit. However, I did indicate that I
did not want to go with a seperate amp, just because I
didn't want to give up the space.

The salesperson listened to my stock system and
recommended that I replace the Panasonic with a Sony
7850 AM/FM CD (45wX4). He said the extra power should
make the stock speakers sound fine and if I wanted a
an additional improvement they would put in a powered
subwolfer.

I had them install the Sony and I think the speakers
sound very good now - I didn't go for the subwolfer
because I didn't want to give up the space.

I do think the rear speakers are a little weak, but I
generally only listen to the radio or CDs while I am
driving and the front speakers satify my needs very
well.

My new '99 EVC is equipped with a low-end Panosonic
cassete/radio and
six 'stock' speakers. I am not happy with the sound
quality. Does
anyone know if upgradig to a quality CD/radio will
give good quality
sound, or will I need to upgrade the speakers too?
Any recomendations
for components.

Thanks!
