I'd first rule out all connections (wiring harnesses, vacuum lines, ground
wires, ignition wires) before I'd start troubleshooting the parts
themselves. It sounds like you have a loose or corroded connection
somewhere, and that can be hard to track down.

Subject: [ev_update] Help: distributor/ignition problem
Date: Thu, Sep 20, 2001, 10:19 AM
This is a follow-up to post of August 14.
1993 EV MV
5 Spd
108,000 miles
Sudden (but usually momentary) loss of power, accompanied by abrupt
drop of tachometer. Happens at different speeds and temperatures.
Vehicle usually recovers within a second or two without need to
restart engine.
More recently vehicle has not recovered right away, engine has died
(indicator lights come on) and has to be restarted.
On most recent occurance wouldn't restart until the next morning
(cranked fine). Fortunately I was close enough to walk home. Have
seen some discussion of the Hall effect transistor in the
distributor, as well as one mention of the coil pack. I really don't
want to start throwing expensive parts at the problem until I'm
reasonably sure. Anyone else experience this?
Thanks.
