I lived in Kuwait for 2 1/2 years in the early 70s (when the Gulf War started
my son said, "Well, at least now people will know where I was born!) - my ex
husband was a British Diplomat.
We met many Palestinians socially and even drove past a deplorable
Palestinian refugee camp outside of Beirut, Lebanon. I remember my
daughter's pediatrician who told how their property in Jaffa had been
confiscated. The Palestinians (and just about every other ethnic group) were
treated as second-class citizens. The Palestinian children went to school
during the second shift...afternoons.
Someone said to me that it suited the Arab nations (who have megamillion
bucks at their disposition and could have resettled them to proper housing)
to have the displaced Palestinians as a "symbol."
Remember, this was 30 years ago. I have no idea what the situation is now.
I would prefer that this not be forwarded to anyone outside the list...at
least not with my screen name visible. I only mention this as possible
insight. The radical fundamentalists are something else completely.
